So I was at the local gun show this weekend and an old man was selling some of his collection. One of the guns that caught my eye was a 6" 1911 Stainless... The tag said High Standard, but the frame said Safari Arms... I wasn't going to argue over that point... Anyhow, the gun was a little dirty but the slide was nice and tight and practically no wear.
So anyhow, I couldn't pass up a good deal so I bought it. Took it home and fired a few rounds first, worked great. Then I decided to take it apart... oh boy...
The spring is literally 10-1/4" long! It also has a two-piece full length guide rod. Just getting the spring back in was quite a chore, it kept wanting to bend and flop every which direction. Then trying to get the guide rod worked in all the way to screw it back it... sheesh! I'm starting to think that is why the previous owner wanted to sell it, and I bet never cleaned it! lol...
So... is a 10-1/4" recoil spring sound about right for a 6" barrel? Or is my 1911 just "gifted"? lol...
I emailed Olympic Arms (bought Safari Arms a while back) to ask them, if I don't get a reply I'll try calling tomorrow. Just thought I would get some feedback from people here too.
