I don't know anything about them but I saw this one and liked it so I bought it.
I'm sure that I paid too much ($300.00 OTD) but it's mine now!
Can anybody tell me just what I have? Common? Rare? Good shooters? Reliable? Etcetera.?

Not sure of the value, but i hope you like it because Im sure your grandkids will have a ball with it.

I've had my 22/45 for about 10 years, probably 1500 rounds a year average.

not a hick-up but i still have to read the manual when i dis-assemble it.

Oh, and mines not near as purty as yours. congrats.

I have about the same pistol and paid $260 for it back three years ago.

Considering that they discontinued this model last year, and put a ton of annoying redundant "safety" features onto the new MkIII, I'd say that's a pretty reasonable price.

These suckers are dang-near indestructible. A couple folks on THR have over half a million rounds fired through these.

The Ruger MkII is, hands-down, my favorite pistol. Currently I'm debating whether to spend $550 to have an integral suppressor (silencer) installed in my MkII. That should give some indication as to how much I like this gun.

Can you find them a tad cheaper if you spend months hitting the pawnshops? Sure, but they don't come on the used market much. Consider the price to be an honest one, and the gun a great one.

You have purchased a very nice pistol. If you bought yours new, you did OK, but not fantastic. If you bought it used, you paid too much.

The good news though, is you have just about the best pistol available to learn marksmanship with. Buy a brick of ammo and gather some cans and enjoy!

Here are a couple of my MKIIs.

You have the rather rare 5.25" semi-bull barrel, which is nice, and a good compromise between the basic gun and the 5.5" bull barrel. A fine field pistol for small game hunting, shooting tin cans, etc.

It is worth $300 in my opinion, especially in that rare form.

Hang onto this one. It makes a splendid basic .22 pistol, and is very durable.
You will more than get your money's worth, and I seldom see them for less where I live, if in really nice condition. I would prefer your MK. II to the current MK III.

A BIG THANK YOU to all of you that chimed in here and on three other boards that I posted my questions.

My general conclusion is that I paid a fair price for a mildly scarce, absolutely fantastic pistol that I should never sell. :D

I'll give a range report when I can.
Thanks again, Bill

5.5" is rare? Now I'm even more annoyed! I have the 6 7/8" heavy-target barrel, and the barrel is just a bit too long/heavy.

On the bright side, since my variant is less uncommon, I have no qualms hacking it up for a suppressor.

5.5" is the _ideal_ MkII length, stainless is easier to maintain than blue, and the MkII is better than the MkI or MkIII.

If I were to find such a pistol, I would pay $300 for it, and that variant would not be hacked up for suppressage or other mods.

Don't know about the price because they vary so much but you have a darn good pistol there. I wouldn't sell this old MKII Target for $300 although I know you can find them a lot cheaper

I know a lot of people dislike Ruger Co. but they make some decent firearms such as the 10/22 and the Mark II's.

I purchased a Mark II slab side target pistol over 15 years ago and still have it to this day. It has proven to be as reliable as expected and darn accurate to boot. My Mark II came with wood target grips that have a high thumb support. The grips are factory and when I ordered my Mark II I had to tell them I wanted a right hand grip. The grip is more conducive for single hand shooting but it works find for two hands. But back to the Mark II. I find it to be a great little gun but a bit on the heavy side. I had mine threaded so that I could screw on my Gemtech suppressor.

Range Report... What a HUGE disappointment today when I tried out my new little TARGET Mark II.

First I loaded both magazines with two brands of ammo each, four in all. Set up a small 5 bull's eye target at the 7 yard line just to check accuracy before I bother shooting it at the 25 yard line.

After the first five shots from a bench rest I looked at the target and there was only ONE kind of large for a .22 LR raggedy hole on the target? The next five shots on the next target... same thing. Again and again? Twenty rounds only FOUR raggedy holes. Now where in the heck did the other sixteen rounds go??? Weird! :D

OK, yes I exaggerated the above story but seriously this gun is by far the most accurate gun that I've ever owned! Maybe the best $300.00 that I've spent in a long while on a gun!

You have been assimilated! Now you must preach what you have learned! Teach new and old the value of the .22 pistol! Congrats on a great pistola and a wise decision!

Just for that, I'll post another Ruger MKII picture....my MKII Government Competition.
