1x fired handgun brass question

You might want to rethink that decision

Not really. Of those 4, 3 of them made a good showing in your setback test. The bulk of my 9mm is RP and PMC... sourced from my fired factory ammo, the remainder being WIN. Federal is the reserve. Much the same as my .45ACP stash... RP and WIN being primary, Federal and PMC being the reserve... again, sourced from my fired factory ammos.

A lot of people poo-poo RP brass, I have a LOT of RP brass for many chamberings... it has always served me well. Same with PMC; their factory ammo isn't that good (accuracy-wise,) but the brass is the real prize. YMMV.

A lot of people poo-poo RP brass,
All you need is a tight enough sizer, but it seems that a good percentage out there are not and it’s easier for folks to just scrap RP brass. I know some people who love it with cast bullets, especially WCs that seat deeply.

I just knock the dirt off, spray on some lube and dump them in the collator.

I don't care about headstamp.

I'm not loading bullseye ammo. I'm loading run and gun/range ammo. As long as it stays in a 6" circle at 25 yards I'm a happy camper. Actually most of my ammo will stay on a 3x5 card at 25 yards if I do my part. The one double Master shooter I know has shot my loads and they are more accurate than most of his.

Stepped brass shows during the loading process. I've found ONE in 30K of loaded 9mm this year. It's the first one I've ever found. Crimped cases show up in the loading process. They are pulled from the press and scrapped.

Most people WAY overthink handgun ammo.

Reloading for general range use and most pistol games don't require a lot of the detail that PRECISION PISTOL requires.

I have a 9mm that is capable of sub 2"'s at 50 yards. It's a shame not to load for that kind of accuracy for THAT gun! (See avatar!)

Smles,

I kind of find this funny in that not long ago I had a thread going relating to R*P brass and oversized cast lead 45acp bullets. Seemed everyone Poo Poo'ed my claim and that my reason for using R*P brass was foolish. Again many suggested I needed to have my gun "Repaired".

In this, my case, the .452" sized cast lead chambered and ran perfectly when loaded in R*P brass, 100% function. When I tried again to load these .452" bullets into this gun they would not chamber. The only change made was the brass! Have since bought a sizer to size to .451" and they will now chamber perfectly. Only I haven't test fired any of these to check for barrel leading problems.

I still keep my R*P 45 brass separate and will continue use it.

Well.. I must be doing something wrong... I load RP brass in .380, 9mm, .41MAG, .45ACP, and .45Colt... have for many, many years... and have never had a problem. My RP .41MAG brass is going on 30 years old and too many loadings to count as an example. My RP .45ACP brass has outlived my Starline .45ACP brass. YMMV, of course.

Smles,

The double Distinguished Master that I sometimes shoots with uses mixed range brass and just knocks the dirt off. I'll bow to his experience.

I've never particularly liked Remington pistol brass, but it has it's points.

It's the only .45 ACP brass I've found that consistently allows me to load 255 grain Lyman 452424 SWC's that'll chamber in my Sig P-220.

Welcome to THR and your new addiction!
I reload all those headstamps and a few more. You may want to start your reloading career in 9mm with just one or two headstamps, but then graduate to mixed brass. Your load development will benefit with a single headstamp so it helps eliminate one of the variables. Once I got my process down I didn’t find mixed brass altered groups or PF very much at all.

On a side note, others have mentioned steel cases. I was going through some range brass recently acquired, and had what looked like a brass case stuck to the magnet. It’s headstamp was X-TREME ST.
You can look them up but they had the brilliant idea to brass plate steel cases. Good luck!

My pistol reloading experience is not as profound as many on here, but my issue has always been pistol manufacture more than case supplier. I have a 9mm S&W LE service pistol that is extremely accurate that I carry sometimes for CCW but it is a little temperamental as to the case and bullet selection and feeding of said ammo. My son has an older Ruger P89 that is 100% reliable that if it fits in the mag it will chamber and fire. The S&W will digest a fair number of the 9MM rounds, cases mixed; I load but not enough to suit me. I have never obtained a 100% feed ratio with any particular single manufacturer brass loading with any of the JHPs I load. Then again, I might be just a little OCD about some things.
