... 2 3/4" and 3" slugs CAN NOT BE USED IN 3 1/2" CHAMBERS. The extra length in the chamber allows the slug to wobble before getting to the barrel, thus the slug can hang up and block the barrel. You'll need to only use 3 1/2" slugs with a 3 1/2" chamber. 2 3/4" and 3" slug loads are abundent so many can be found when testing your shotgun to see which load it likes best.
I read this in another post. Is this true? I haven't heard of this before. A slug getting all sideways & obstructing the bore could be quite hazardous, to say the least.

Never heard of it before personally. I also do not know of a 3.5" gun that is not backbored AND lengthened in the forcing cone, both of which should negate any wobbling. I see at worst it will really suck for accuracy, I don't see that it will hurt the gun at all.

The post is total rubbish, ARGarrison is wrong.

From Remington's website:

"In many cases, shotguns with 3" or 3-1/2" chambers also function with shorter shells (like the Remington Model 870 Express Super Magnum). Shotguns with 2-3/4" chambers and barrels are designed for use with 2-3/4" shells ONLY."

Edit: Deleted question.
found the post redundant question.

I was told this by a person I really belived he knew of what he was talking about, but the only thing I can find to support my statement is this;

http://www.mossberg.com/faqs.htm#fireslugs

It applies only to Mossberg 835s with Field Barrels. This is probally where my source was getting his information.

I also took into account Lightfield warning on the back of thier 2 3/4" sabot slug which states, "Not Recommend for 3 1/2" Chambers"

When I originaly wrote the statement it should have been "Should Not" instead of "Can Not", because you can.

Nuff' said.

ARG, thanks for the correction and update. Takes a bigger man. I appreciate it.
