"As to roll marks on the frame and slide, as to what any of you may think, it is most desirable to have a browning hi power/fn marked pistol with only the browning import marks on it."

It doesn't matter what it says if all you're going to do is shoot it and never sell it and then leave it to your kids. The one that's most desirable is the one you like the most.

I'm glad I finished school, when I decided to purchase my first HP I bought a new one.

It does, at least locally to me. I speak from personal experience, both buying and then attempting to resell FN-rollmarked BHPs in 9mm and 40S&W.

There are always a few people who'll buy based on brand name. That's why we have people wearing $200 sneakers and $50 tee shirts.

Yet, I maintain that the smart buyer will choose based on price and quality. He isn't going to allow himself to be gouged by somebody selling a rollmark on the slide. An FN Hi Power is an FN Hi Power, and it is what it is based on condition and finish, not whether it says Browning or Fabrique Nationale on the slide.

Kodiak, You're wrong and right all at the same time. And its shown in your on post.

The 'market' isnt soley made up of "the smart buyer". The market is made up of ALL buyers.

And you're right about people buying for the brand name... but you're wrong in your description of "few people" buying the the brand name.

Its called Marketing and Brand Recognition. Its no secret why companies spend millions on it. It works.

The plus side of all this for me is that I have a BHP and have always wanted a FN marked one too. Now I know I should be able to get one for less; all things being equal. :D

True, but that marketing ploy shouldn't apply to the informed (smart) buyer.

Merry Christmas and Happy Festivus. Let the airing of grievances begin. :D

I just picked up a 40 S&W with box and papers for 600.00. How'd I do?

Which rollmark? Depending on finish and sights you did well. Not a super deal but fair.

I haven't got it yet, but it looks like one of the recent commercial pieces.

$600 isn't a bad price for a 40sw browning, I can get one here for $515 plus tax, so its about $550 OTD.

If its a gloss blued model then its a steal.

I paid $650 for a NIB ( used unfired) 9mm gloss blued adjustable sight model from dealer that took it in on trade, with all the factory oil and paper still wrapping it up.
