Hey I thought that all those extra restictive gun laws in Canada kept them "safe" from shootings, but two dead and more injured in a shooting inside a business?

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (Reuters) - Two people were killed and six people wounded in an early-morning shooting in a Vancouver restaurant on Thursday, police said.

Vancouver police were searching for two men who walked into the Fortune Happiness Restaurant in an east side neighborhood at about 4:30 a.m.. The attack was believed to be targeted.

"(Officers) arrived to a chaotic scene at the restaurant with tables and chairs overturned, customers shot, broken glass and frantic witnesses," police said in a statement.

Police said they were talking to several witnesses. One of the wounded victims was reported to be in critical condition.

Incidentally, shootings are not all that RARE in Canada. In fact, much crime goes unreported, especially black-on-black crime.

CNN blurb had a talking head saying suspects used "semi-auto machineguns".

The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation reported that police found 9mm & .40 caliber shell casings at the scene.

Yes. Shootings in Toronto, for instance (especially in Scarborough, which is like the Compton of Toronto), get little press. The most recent one to get big press was a shootout at the Eaton Centre last Christmas. 4 Black youths fired across the street at each other. That got peoples attention, but the focus of the crime was the shooting death of a 15 year-old white girl.

Seriously, the gun restrictions canada implies on its citizens in no way prevents crimes. Bad guys get guns through illegal means, no matter what. You want to take away specific firearms, limit magazine capacity, require authorizations to transport, it won't stop a bad guy from getting a gun.

Some areas in vancouver are a complete ****hole, seriously, for example east hastings, anyone who's been to that 'area' will know what i'm talking about. Point being I'm not surprised that people are getting shot in van ;0

It boggles my mind how it is that the anti cannot understand that gun control does not affect crime. I suppose that is why there can never be a satisfactory reconciliation between the anti's and us. Pro-gun folks employ fact/reality based rationale whereas the anti is mired in convoluted emotion. Until the anti crowd collectively grow a brain, I fear that it's a lost cause ...

Are those weapons used in the crimes legally-held or illegally,bought on the black-market? I think that it is likely that they were illegal anyway and East Hastings,is probably another hellhole like Compton and SouthCentral,in LA,which wouldn't suprise me one bit.

Gun laws and their restrictive clauses,have nothing to do with people going out and blowing each other away,because coloured kids in the UK have been known to shoot at others with Mac10 smgs and various other types of weapons and the UK,is very strict on gun ownership.It was the result of a looney going postal with an AK47,M1 Carbine,S&W .38 and a Beretta M92f,who was a classic example of a spree-killer,with a troubled background.

The antis will use these shootings to justify banning guns and failing to understand that they are displaying a blatent display of pig-ignorance,towards events that don't concern legally-held weapons.But if some white young or middle-aged psychotic loser,decided to go postal with legal weaponry,then they would of called this conventional gun crime and compared it,to the other types with this.

Over here they have said that the availabilty of buying guns,pre-Dunblane was as easy as it was in America and always compared American society with the British society,which is no comparison whatsoever.Guns are easier to buy in the States and in Canada,then they are in the UK,but it is always about America and stupid 'Yanks,the cranks,with guns.'

Oh, they do understand that, completely. They understand that gun control increases crime, both the actual crimes and manufactured crimes (ie gun ownership). It's about control not crime.

problem of course. people up here think that if you outright ban guns then crime will some how dissapear.

me and quite a few others have possed questions to the media when they ask for them asking why we only see statistics on guns used in crimes, and not when illigaly obtained guns are used in crimes. people dont want to hear that it was an illigal gun used in a crime. and the media doesent want to lose a cash cow of gun stories by letting the sheep of the public know that the guns used arent from every day legal gun owners but from people that stole guns or baught illigal guns and used them.
