My primary residency is in Mass but I also have an apartment in CA. I have a Mass driver's license and a CA state ID.

I have all the paperwork to legally purchase a firearm in CA and the firearm that I would like to purchase is both CA and MA compliant. Is it alright for me to eventually move it back to my home in Mass when my lease runs out in CA? I know it would need to be registered in Mass when it is brought into the state but will I run into any problems?

From what I've read I just need to fill out an FA10 form when I bring it to Mass but I just want to double check. Can never be too careful.

Thanks

Edit: I should also add that I do have a Mass Firearms ID and allowed to own firearms in the state.

I don't know the answer, but this is reason number 107 that the silly "state residency" requirements for an AMERICAN citizen need to be abolished.

If you are an American citizen, you should be able to buy in ANY state. It would be good for the 2A and good for the economy and I have never heard a single valid reason against it.

No legal problems that I see with what you describe doing. I would, of course, suggest that you end your cross country trip very short of MA, however. Like Arizona or Nevada! :D

Holy mackerel, I'm still trying to figure out which state would be the proverbial frying pan, and which state would be the fire.

NavyLT: Thanks for responding. I plan on moving out of Mass eventually but their gun laws don't bother me too much for now. I won't be sticking around long after California's thumb print requirement for ammo purchases though. Next law they'll probably want me to wear an ankle bracelet whenever I go to the range.

No, but the gun will have to wear one for you
You will just have to put a whoopy light on your car and wear a hunter Orange shirt with legalese on it. AFT had/has a FAQ on this
