Okay after some searching and reading and all I have decided not to use the fio. hulls i have i tried a few and they crumpled at the bottom near brass and then also bent when applying the 6 point crimp starter and finishing at the top so it looks deformed somewhat ( not sure what you call the bend) anyway I am looking for 20 gauge hulls maybe win aa hs? rem. gun club sts or what ever anyone know where they are in stock and also i have the waa20 wads and universal powder i would take recommendations on them as well

Thank you
Rob

You can start building your hull 'stash' the way I did; buy factory ammo and shoot it. Then talk to guys at your gun club and find out who shoots the hulls you want but don't reload. As earlthegoat2 says, they show up on GunBroker regularly. You could join a shotgunning forum and check the for sale/vendors subforums. I wish I could help more, but I don't currently own a 20ga., and the guy I know locally that sells hulls only sells 12 ga.

You can get issues with buckling if you're trying to put to much into the hull--i.e. your stack height is too high. I've run into this with steel loads for waterfowl, which can use some extra wad pressure and then some aggressive tamping of the shot to make it all fit.

Is the load you've selected common--has someone else made it fit? The next step is ensure that you have the correct components and you've verified your measurements. Finally, check the adjustment on the crimp starter--you should not be putting much force on the hull when starting the crimp--certainly not enough to make the hull buckle.

I load fiocchi hulls. They are hard to load for reasons you have stated. I also have used federal and Remington sts
The Remington hulls are by far the best and easiest to load.

I use 2 3/4 hulls. 7/8 and 1oz loads with fed 20s wads
And longshot powder. Best performance combo I have tried. Only a few combos in my experience on 20g. Tons of loads with 12g and compared to them my 20g loads are good.

Bpi is a good source for most shotgun loading

Number one hull for reloading is Winchester AA, STS second everybody else distant third. With that said Winchester should be coming out with their rebate program ($2 per box)…purchase a couple cases and call it a day, keep the hulls to reload. Couple things…what are you loading for, skeet, sporting, 5-stand, hunting or something else? For skeet and 5-stand you can go with a Claybuster 3/4oz. wad, #8 shot, as long as you do your part the load will be lights out for the birds…can also be used for pen raised bird hunting…sporting you might be at a disadvantage depending upon target distances. Also 20ga comes in either 6 or 8 point crimp.

I think not! The AA shells are now two piece and straight walled!
The STS and Gun Clubs are still compression formed and one piece shells.

The Remington shells will with stand many reloads and perform very well
with any load.

for 12 and 20, go with Remington on any flavor - GC,STS, Nitro, etc. For 28 and 410, go with Win AAHS

Are they AA's or the ultra cheap ValuPac shells?
Sometimes I see a lot of red shells in the dumpster and they are not
AA's.

Interesting. Been shooting skeet for 30+ years and 95% or better of all reloaded ammo I see (20ga) is AA, the rest is mixed.
The issue with the AAHS hull in 12 and 20 is the inconsistent length. Back in the 80s and 90s, I tossed the old CFs in the same box as the Remingtons and no issues; but once they switched to the HS style, things got iffy. The ironic part is that in 28 and 410 the same issue is reversed with Remington hulls being wacky.

I am just loading to target practice etc.. when i know what i am doing then maybe for home skeet what ever

humm okay i thought the waa20 wads were the ones to use New to the shotshell stuff so how do you tell the difference in the wads and hulls?
WinAA and all Rems are tapered hulls and AA and Rem wads (and their clones) are designed for those tapered hulls. Euro hulls and Federals, along with the really cheap Win hulls are straight walled hulls and you need to use those for those hulls. If you get your data from the Alliant or Hodgdon power sites, you'll get what wad to use with what primer and what wad

i went to hodgdon and this is what i got selecting the 20 ga. 2 3/4 Fio and pmc plastic target shell low base wad. and it gave me more than this

Powder Primer wad grs
Universal Fio. 616 WAA20 17.0

So if i look at that it tells me to use the fio hull with a f616 primer in it with a waa20 wad at 17grs

would that be correct?

Fiocchi primers are metric, if you use them, you may have issues if you go back to a US primer. I reload 20 in GC hulls with Universal; never needed more than 15.5, but have since switched to a 3/4oz load using GreenDot in GC hulls with CB clone wads

When i bought these they were primed already just getting started out so was just trying to make something i have work till i could find some gun club or something hard to find the crap

You are using wads for a tapered hull in a straight-walled hull. That is not the best combination.
Not the best combination but it works. Has nothing to do with hull crinkle issues. Only powder migration, which doesn't happen unless they are transported alot before being fired.
