I am inclined to agree that 20 round AR mags are better for prone shooting. You can make it work with 30 rounders but is simpler with 10 or 20 rounders.
Part of the point with prone shooting is getting close to the ground and when part of your rifle keeps you an extra few inches above the ground, it will interfere with your shooting. OTOH, it is something you can probably learn to live with. I am not a fan of using the base of the magazine to support the rifle either, so having a shorter magazine makes sense to me.
