brady campaign state grades
So, let me see if I have this right...

The Brady Campaign issues a yearly grade to each state, based on certain criteria, and the high grades go to states whose people are the most defenseless and vulnerable to murder, rape, robbery, and assaults?

:barf:

D- for Ohio, so close and yet so far. I'v never wanted an "F" so much in my life.

64% get d or below

"Overall, 32 states received a grade of "D" or "F" for the 2005 report card. "

or 64% are below passing. My gut tells me they are loosing ground anybody want to check back a few years ans see just how much ground they are losing?

Kentucky has an F and we're pround of it:evil: Also anybody curious why thay have links to "contact the media in your state and the million moron march" but no links to contact represenatives:scrutiny: My answer is here in the Bluegrass state we'd laugh and vote our rep's right out of the district if we didn't tar and feather them first for pushing the "Brady agenda."

I don't condone what Hinkley did but Hinkley did it not the gun:banghead:

Does anyone have the corresponding crime rates for each state? Would be interesting to see what the correlation is between anti-gun legislation and the crime rate...

With the exception of a lot of people in Louisville and Lexington, Kentucky is a gun friendly state. Good thing is, each of these two cities have a helluva lot of gun owners and shooters and with people like oldschool and others in the rest of the state we're going to keep our F.

I haven't done it for 2005 but I compared Brady Grades to per capita violent crime and homicide figures published by the FBI for each state using 2004 Brady Grades. I put the Brady Grade on the 4.0 scale so it could be compared numerically and graphed grades v. violent crime and grades v. homicide. When looking at the graph, it becomes very apparent that there is absolutely no correlation, positive or negative, between a state's gun control measures and its violent crime or murder rates. None. Zip. Zilch. Nada. Zero.

This may seem like bad news for our cause, not being able to say definatively that less gun control equates to less crime, but remember, the right is already ours. The burden of proof is on them. They are the ones that have to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that gun control works. Using their own information it is apparent that it doesn't, so we're pretty safe from having any meaningful conclussions drawn against us from this data.

One another note, I haven't taken the time to look too far back, but does anyone know if Montana has ever gotten anything but an "F" on these report cards? I love this state.

I wonder if the Brady Campiagn realizes how lost we would be without them doing all this research for us. I think we should thank them for doing all the research so that we can reap the rewards.

Do you think if Brady realized what she was doing for us, she would ever publish these report cards again? What would we do then? How would we ever know what to tell our reps to vote against to lower our grades?

I'm just so ashamed of VA...C minus.

I resolve to get that grade down!

I don't think these people are very good at math either...

Virginia got 4 F's, 1 C and 2 B's. How does that average out to a C-?

To quote Howard Dean

YYYYYYEEEEEAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHhh

Florida goes from a D to F+ awesome

Next year we need to get the minus

CMON Jeb how about looters are to be shot on sight. Woo Hoo f+

F....Yessssss

My state got an F.:) It should have been an F-.

They had one of the laws dealing with local governments ability to sue gun manufactures incorrect. I sent them an e-mail telling them to correct it. :D

I just don't get it. CA got an A-. I assume that an A+ would be the total ban on guns.

Currently in a B- probably soon to be D state. Finally!!! The Husker Nation has seen the Light!!!!

Just in time to move to an A- probably soon to be A+ State.

SanFransisco... Washington D.C. with better weather?? :what: :what:
Only time will tell...

I love Florida. Here is our complete Brady report card.

The Brady Bunch said:
F+ (was D)
Florida Receives an "F+ " on Laws Shielding Families

From Gun Violence
Legislation Grade Comments

Juvenile Possession Law A- YES, must be 18 for all firearms

Juvenile Sale/Transfer Law A- YES, must be 18 for all firearms

Child Access Prevention Law B YES, under 16

Gun Safety Locks and Safer Design Standards F NONE

Allow Cities To Regulate Guns (Non-Preempt) D+ RESTRICTED:
Counties may impose longer waiting period and gun show checks

Secondary "Private" Sales Background Checks D LIMITED: Counties may require at gun shows

Carrying Concealed Weapons Law F No police discretion, minimal training, reciprocity

Extra Credit Demerits
No Extra Credit Awarded Enacted nation's first shoot first law.

Rats, Missouri only got a D+ but we deserve at least an outright D- The loons have us listed as having a waiting period, but unless you count having to get a permit to purchase a handgun as waiting, with no wait for anything else, they need to drop us down-

Ya know,

I think it's impossible to get an F- from the Brady's. I just looked at Wyoming and other then requiring training for a CCW (which rated a D-), The cowboy state got straight F's in all the other catagories.

Hmmm......Wyoming......Hmmmm......

They need to use more letters. There is just too much upward bias in the sample. It would be like giving a 3rd grade reading test to a bunch of literary geniuses. Obviously they would all ace it unless someone got knocked in the head with a lead pipe. We see similar phenomena at work in the brady ratings.

Except for the states with brain damage, everyone is clustered around D or F. They need to extend it to at least H or I to properly distinguish between states that are merely gun neutral, those that are slightly pro gun and those that are completely solid.
