2008 Mini 14

Does anybody have experience with the "new" Mini 14 (still in the 580 series)? As far as I know Ruger now ships all Minis with the thicker, recontoured, heavier barrel designed for the new 6.8 SPC (tapered near the gas black). Has anybody had a chance to try/buy a new .223 with the new hardware. Is there a noticable difference? What kind of accuracy are you getting (how does the new barrel deal with heating up)? Thanks in advance.

Talking about the Mini 14 on this forum is like riding a Honda to a biker rally, no matter what the truth is you'll never get past the dominant group think.

I bought a NRA Special Edition Mini-14. I like it so far. It handles like a M1 Carbine. I have only fired it once since I scoped it. Not the best accuracy but better than any Mini I have owned before. The trigger is a little stiff and I will have it worked on. My plan is to use it for varmit hunting and SHTF duty if I need it.
