that lower target on the 1st pic looks like it could be 2", which is darn good for 10 shots.
Yeah, but that's with my M1 Carbine. ;)

The top target in the first pic and bottom target in the second are the ones shot with the Ranch Rifle. And note those are at 50 yards, not 100.

I'll try again with different ammo next time I get a chance. I'm also thinking of trying the re-torquing the gas block trick... some say it makes a difference.
 
Just found this older thread after buying a new 580 series with the 16" barrel. Like many, I have owned several mini-14 and none had respectable accuracy. But I've always loved the basic gun, being a long time M1A fan.

Having hear good reports about the new Mini-14, I decided to pick one up. The barrel is noticeably thicker, and parts like the gas block look better fitted. The trigger is still nothing special, but if the rifle's accuracy warrants it, that can be fixed.

I'll be taking the rifle out this week for a test drive, and will report back. If I can get 2-3 MOA I'll consider the gun a big improvement over the previous ones I've owned.
