US Congress HB4748 is an assault weapons ban import bill that would redefine an assault weapon as having one feature, it would ban the importation of parts kits and would make it illegal to assemble a parts kit even if you use the correct amount of American parts. It would also ban the import of any firearm than has a fixed magazine that can carry over 10 rounds or any firearm that can accept a 'high capacity' magazine

Text finally came in for a new federal bill that showed up late last week. It's called the 'Keep kids safe act of 2016', HB4914.

It would make anyone convicted of a misdemeanor sex offense against a child a prohibited person.

Now let's be honest, no one likes sex offenders, but how exactly is prohibiting someone from owning firearms (due to a misdemeanor no less) going to make any children safe?

http://amgoa.org/Proposed-Federal-Gun-Legislation-HB4914/Federal-Law/2381

I can't see anyone getting ONLY a misdemeanor conviction for a sexual offense when it involves children.

I can't see anyone getting ONLY a misdemeanor conviction for a sexual offense when it involves children.

Happened recently here in VA with a politician elected to the VA House of Delegates. Something about sex with a 17 year old and nude photos. Charged with contributing to the deliquency of a minor.

He also once brought an AK-47 onto the house floor to make a point about gun control laws, so it seems like this proposed bill might make that harder for him in the future.
