2019 Rifle Goals?

I thought I answered on this one already, not sure where it went?

I accidentally bought an AR-10 a while back, so I’m going to complete it as a long range, precision 6mm Creed. Not sure which forend I want to use yet, but everything else is underway.

I also finally bit the bullet and bought a barrel for a 6mm Grendel variant, this one in 243 LBC. This one also will be a long range, precision rifle. I’ll also be building a new Service Rifle upper this spring and shooting a bit more this summer (not running for legs, just having fun with some sling shooting).

I’ll be finishing my new Defiance Deviant PR match rifle, and probably rebuilding one of my Surgeon pistols as a match rifle for my wife.

My son also has asked for his own AR, so we’re building his first (he’s 5), which will be a 10.5” SBR in 5.56 to keep the weight down.

My FIL handed down his 700 BDL in 30-06 to my wife, so we’ll be dropping in a Jewel, then blocking and bedding the action, and free floating the barrel.

Surgeon pistol?

My advice would be to keep the weight on for kids. Lower recoil and less retort is more pleasant even if they have to shoot from bench. And more importantly you need to make sure the muzzle is a long way from support hand fingers.

1. Finally start to reload (for those who answered my thread on this topic, I was gifted with two reloading manuals for my birthday, thanks to you).
2. Henry single shot, most likely in .243, if we can get them here.
3. Find a gunsmith to take a look at my .303 Enfield P14 conversion to 35 Territorian project.

On two or three rifles I want to change the sling swivel studs to McMillan sling swivel cups. I like the way the cups let the sling swivel turn to provide a natural movement to the sling. I have two rifles with the cups now and I would like to have more. When the sling is removed from the cups the bottom of the rifle is flat and that works better when target practicing.

You guys are just unAmerican. Good thing GunnyUSMC has enough to go around. LOL.
I only have 23. You make it sound like I have a lot.
For 2019 I would like to finish up my Flying Tigers P40 Warhawk AR build. Not sure if I’ll make it a rifle or pistol.
Maybe build a AR10, don’t have one of those yet. And maybe a 30 cal can too.
But most likely I’ll just end up buy a bunch of stuff.
-One of those Turkish Garands, as soon as I finish paying off my student loans.
On your way to CMP come by and pick my up. I’ll pay for half the gas.

I'd like to finally replace my sold 357 lever gun with another Marlin 1894 (either a traditional model or the CSBL ) or a Henry. I almost pulled the trigger on a brass Big Boy a few years ago.

A basic AR. Possibly a S&W or a Ruger, but I'm open to other choices. Its time to get one just in case. For budget and political reasons this might be the first rifle to get once funds are available.

Maybe an AK or SKS for the same reason. But I'm surprised how expensive SKSs are now.

A bolt action rifle. A scout rifle maybe. The Ruger American Ranch in 7.62x39 looks interesting

His AR isn’t a wild idea some first timer is dumping on a kid for his first round fired. 20yrs of instructing kids - including this particular kid for the last 3yrs behind a trigger - has made me pretty aware of what limitations they face. He’s been shooting my 10.5” and 7” rifles for over a year from sticks. A 16” with a can out front is just too long for his height to manage in the field. He runs my SBR’s just fine.

You’re also neglecting - the best ear pro for kids moves the muzzle a handful of inches too.

I plan to acquire a good 18inch AR barrel, low profile adjustable gas block, a decent hand guard, and update one of our AR15's fixed barrel carbines.

More range time for rifle is an overall goal. :) I seemed to let that slip quite a bit in 18.
I want a bolt action .223 to load for medium range shooting, and shooting small groups. Likely not for hunting unless it is varmints.
I'm also enticed by an AR in .450 Bushmaster so if funds permit it would be nice to play with that. Besides the law now allows me hunt with it in the whole lower peninsula in MI so it opens more hunting options for me.

I want to sell a handful of rifles I never use, and shoot my Barrett FC 6.5 CM as much as possible.

I would like to pick up a bolt action 6.5 Grendel. Still haven't decided which, and will probably wait for a new option. If the CZ 527 MTR is released here I may not be able to resist. Looks like an awful fun bench gun.

I've got two rifles near the top of my shopping list for 2019:
  1. A "Precision Rifle" in 6.5 Creedmore. Undecided between the Ruger Precision Rifle, and the Savage Ashbury Precision Rifle.
  2. A .45-70 lever action. Probably a Marlin 1895 "Cowboy" with 26-inch barrel, if I can find a good one.
I... am the only person on the forum who doesn't own an AR15.
I've got one, but I'm not sure how much longer I'll have it. I bought a Smith & Wesson M&P 15 Sport just before the big AR bubble took off. In the years since then I could count on two fingers the number of times I took it to the range and every time I look at it now, I wonder if I should just sell it?

Your kid has been shooting since age 2?

Yup. Started him on a BB gun on his 2nd bday, then a 10/22 a couple months later. Got him the Marlin 60 and Savage Mark II of his own that year.

We were teaching him muzzle discipline before he could talk with toy guns. Sight alignment with nerf guns on plastic dinosaurs before he was 2. He proved he was responsible enough to listen as needed, demonstrated the knowledge, skills, and attitude to operate within the parameters we set, and he has grown rapidly in the pursuit since.

I would hate that stock design but the rest of it is neat looking. They need to figure out what they are making there, a bench rifle or a varmint rifle. The stock design won’t ride bags well so it a poor bench design, and you won’t be able to get a thumb around the wrist so it will be a crappy varmint rifle to shoot from field positions.

Ha Ha. I said that last year and 2 more rifles came in the mail, at least the parts did. I wish you luck in “not buying any more”
I'm doing good so far, I've convinced myself there really aren't any rifles, or scopes I really WANT.....
unfortunately it seems I've developed a hankering for another wheel gun.....

I have several things that I need to do.

1. Shoot the 3 rifles that I have not shot.
2. Rebarrel my 223 Varmint rifle (I have a new Krieger barrel in the safe)
3. Rebarrel my 308 hunting rifle. (Thinking about a short heavy barrel)
4. Finish my long range Varmint rifle. (I just need to change the trigger, firing pin and mount the scope. I have all of the parts to do this)
5. Build or buy another AR

My 2019 goal is to go to the range and shoot at least once or twice per month. I did not know being a grandfather was a full time job. I plan (hope) to do my grandfathering during the week nights, leaving shooting and drive time for 1 weekend day. Grandson gets one weekend day as well.
I feel very lucky to be able to do both.

Yeah, I picked up a Ruger M77 MK II in 6.5x55 today. I’ve got some feelers out for a 550 FS in 6.5 Swede or 308. Might settle for a 243 just because there are so many available.
nice score on that mkII. i like 243 but for some reason i would like a long action cartridge, the short have the mag i would rather have a floor plate. money is tight for me other wise i would get the 243 just to have.

I have $500.00 in my gun budget,I seen a Henry or Marlin 45-70 18" all weather i'd like to add to my collection.I need about $450.00+ before I can add it to the family next year. I will check the name brand the next time i'm in my LGS soon.

Get my kids more involved in shooting. They seem to be more interested as of late so I want to take them as far as they want to go with the sport. As of now popping soda cans and deer has been the extent of their interest. Which is fine because last year at this time that wasn't much fun to them.

I would like to build a hot rod 6.5/.277/7mm on a R700 mag action just because. I have plenty practical rifles, I just want one of these for fun.

Maybe finally pony up the $$$ and find a Wby Mark XXII bolt gun in 22lr or 17hmr either one and a Rem 541s Custom Sporter.

I plan on finishing a few projects that are still laying around and doing a bunch of load development for rifles that havent been shot yet, or haven't been shot a lot.
I also plan to get my kids out shooting more, building the oldest daughter an ar for Christmas, and my 7 yr old son wants to shoot more too. He really likes my SBR.

As far as buying new stuff, I will build a few ar15's ( trying to be like Gunny), but what I really want to do is build or buy a 221 fireball rifle. I may build a mini action switch barrel in 221 and 357max rimless...
Oh, and a Henry single shot in 357!
