I've been looking at STI's, now renamed Staccato for a while but haven't bought one due to mixed reviews. Attached is a link to a review from Larry Vickers explaining their history, the reason for some reliability issues caused by their magazines and the changes they've made which appear to be promising. Has anyone had any experience with them under their new ownership? I currently have an EDCX9 and X9S, which I carry often so I don't need a Staccato but if they're reliable would be willing to part with some safe queens to purchase one.

Have a look at 10-8 performance's channel on YouTube and watch his vids on the Staccato. From what I can see (and he seems very credible to me) the platform is GTG now.

Am I the only one who thinks Larry Vickers looks and sounds like the king of all D-bags?

Oh I'm sure he does. But I know a lot more about trees than other people, but I'm not a dick about it. :D
Just a data point, but Mr. Vickers is currently undergoing treatment for follicular lymphoma at the Charlotte, North Carolina cancer center.

While that’s a bummer and I hope he comes through it alright, that does not change my opinion of his demeanor or presentation of his persona.

I've got an older STI Edge 2011 in 9mm, one in .40. A few weeks ago I bought a new Staccato P "DPO" as I fell down the optics rabbit hole. I have to say the new Staccato has run and shoots as well as my old Edge models, so far so good. It still has some of the Dawson Precision parts the older ones came with. I just wish they offered more finishes that DLC, I loved the hard chrome/gold barrel look.

So, just curious, but was the re-name due to a legal requirement (change of ownership/patent/etc.?) or is this just another example of "change for the sake of change"?

Some people never learn the most obvious of lessons (re: New Coke)....
Similar to Dodge "Ram" trucks. You have a recognizable brand and a faithful following...why discard it? "Hey guys, I have a great idea...!" Yeah, right.

STI is a respected 1911 manufacturer with a history and a pedigree.

Staccato? In my world, that is an adjective, not a noun. I have lusted after a few STIs in the past, and may buy one in the future (a used one, that is). This strikes me as more Wall Street investor-driven idiocy.

Same ownership same employees, etc. just a name change.
For the last several years they have been renaming their product line yearly. I found that odd too,

The silver lining is of course I can now add Extremely Rare if I go to sell some.. lol.

i.e. STI DVC OMNI > STI DVC P > Staccato XC

Staccato can be used as a adjective, an adverb, or a noun. I believe the form used by the company is in reference to the adverb form: sharply detached or separated from the others

I believe part of the renaming is to denote that they are now only producing 2011 based pistols

Have their mag prices come down at all yet after the rebranding?

I wish they didn't go all in on the cuts, slants, and crazy designs as their asthetic.

I had almost bought a Tac 4.0 on a few separate occasions, a C2 would be interesting as an option (I do have an EDC X9 and wish it's grip felt more traditional 1911/2011 instead of the profile they chose) but they just have too much stuff on the slide for me, asthetically.

(For now, I may end up with one some day anyway)

I have the Staccato C model which is a compact single stack. It feels like it was customized just for my hand; I absolutely love it.

I’m going to “try” and save up for one of the Staccato double stacks. I went ape and bought a lot of guns last year, so I gotta take it slow.

FWIW: Vickers’ demeanor has never bothered me. I just figured that he is a hardcore military guy like I have met before.

Unfortunately those proprietary double stack mags still require a second mortgage if you want to buy more than a few.

My EDC X9 does not handle as well for me as I had hoped as well. 19/2011’s handling is tough to beat for me also.

Their magazines, if purchased from them are $70. From third parties they raneg from $52 to $80. I always pick up a few extra magazines for my guns, and these prices are a problem. By the time I add the cost of magaines I'd be not too far off of what I paid for my EDC X9 and X9S. This may be the deal killer for me.

Yeah, once I understood and accepted that the EDC X9 feels, shoots and handles like a Sig more than a 1911, I really found my comfort zone with mine, I shoot it just fine. I do appreciate the thinner grip profile for concealment over a 2011, easy to carry under a t-shirt.

Especially since, pre COVID, I managed to buy 8-10 EDC x9 mags for about $25 each, of course they are only around for near the $40 normal price, as far as I've seen lately.

I rented one at an indoor range. Sixty rounds later, no jams and incredible accuracy sold me on the gun.
Mine just had its first outing yesterday. Again, no jams and really accurate. They come with three mags and a right handed holster. If you’re a lefty it’s tough to find holsters. My preferred holster maker won’t have them for about a month. So, that’s the only downside I can see.

And the reason I heard for the name change was that ‘STI’ was getting confused with ‘STD’, and no one wants STD on their hands!!
