.22 CCi shorts. 750-ish fps 29gn???

I have a Browning SA-22 chambered in 22 short. The CC HVHP shorts are extremely effective on critters, but the CBs do pretty well, too. The CBs cycle about 2/3 of the time, but they are very, very quiet out of the rifle. Sound about like a BB/pellet gun.

I shoot them out of my Remington model 34 tube fed bolt action. Holds 22 or 23 rounds of shorts and I’ve used them to kill a few squirrels and rabbits. Super quiet from the long barrel on that gun. Also plenty of fun out of a revolver.

edit: just posted this in “classic rifles in the field” and it reminded me that I shot this squirrel with cb shorts! So there photo proof for ya Mark! Don’t forget eastern grey squirrels are an invasive species here in Washington and we can hunt them year round without bag limits. Fun for scratching the hunting itch on an early summer morning.

I've still got a bunch of all kinds of shorts because I could load 23 of them into my tubular magazine bolt .22. For the life of me, I can't remember the rifle brand. It's in storage right now.

I also have a mess of CB Caps, but they didn't feed well, bolt action notwithstanding. Most autoloaders didn't cycle. A danger of the CB caps is they may not make it out of a long barrel, and they say so. Same thing: anything unusual happens while shooting, stop and investigate thoroughly.

Shorts are quiet, pretty accurate from the long barrel, and did most of the jobs you'd ask of a ,22. Talk about load on January and shoot 'til December. Wellll, that's an exaggeration for the sake of a good aphorism, but there were times on long walks that I didn't have to reload all day.

I've got an 1890 Winchester gallery rifle chambered in 22 short with the CB shorts it's nearly as quiet as standard velocity LR is suppressed and it's quieter than supersonic suppressed.
I used to have an original 1890 Winnie but after some use a lifter part broke and turns out they are made of pure cash. I got it running, sold it and bought a Rossi copy. Played with it for a while and liked it okay but the action just wasn't as slick as the WRA and the safety on the bolt drove me nutsy - so I traded it for a Henry and some change (to the positive in my bank account) and haven't gone back. The Henry is smooth and light. Accurate enough for minute-of-squirrel-noggin' (or plastic bowling pin or wooden duck decoy, take your pick). Every once in a while I'll pick up some cheap small clay pots from the nursery a couple of towns over - $10/dozen - and setup a couple of old ladders with pots lined up and let the kids have fun smashing them with shorts. A small pot can take 2-3 or more hits and still leave something to shoot at. Smile city all day.

My 1890 is a heirloom I don't shoot it much, I have a Stevens Favorite I shoot mostly shorts in also. But now that I have jumped thru the NFA hoop I shoot mostly suppressed and the smiles last longer lol.

I bought a Henry lever H001 22 for shooting all manner of 22. I would have gotten a pump action but the lever was more available and slightly cheaper. It shoots short, long, and long rifle ammo. I have a couple hundred shorts and they are a hoot in that rifle out to 25 yards. I haven’t tried them further.

Henry recommends against the use of Quiet, CB, and Super Colibri ammunition out of their rifles. There is a concern with bullets getting stuck in the barrel. Regular Colibri is totally out.

That said I have shot all the CB and Quiet Ammo except the 45 grain semiautomatic Quiet out of the lever action and didn’t have any problem, but I did it against Henry’s recommendation. Even I am not crazy enough to try the normal Colibri rounds. Those things might not make it out of a 8” barreled revolver. The Super Colibri have feeding issues so I only tried the one box and probably won’t buy any more unless I get a revolver. I do need to try the CCI Quiet for semiauto though. If it cycles like a standard velocity load, maybe it will cycle my SW 22.

didn’t know they were invasive!!! now it’s time to get a tube fed bolt action that can hold 40 .22 CB and eat some Gray ones!

I have shot shorts out on my Remington 12 C punching holes in paper. The rifle has an old Weaver J2.5 3/4 inch tube on it. I can watch the bullet hit the target if I pay attention. Don't have a pic with the scope on it so this one will have to do. Remington 12C 22 RF a.jpg

I shoot them out of my Remington 550-1. Functions just fine. The empties just dribble out of the ejection port, but that floating chamber never fails to function semi-automatically. I've had air rifles that were louder. I load the last couple of rounds in the mag with anything low velocity. When the gun transitions from a "Bang" to a "POP" I know I am almost empty. 550s have a long, fragile firing pin which doesn't like dry firing.

I shot regular Colibri through my Crickett before with no problems. Guy from my club warned me, so I gave the bore a quick swab of CLP beforehand and it seemed to work out all right. Ymmv, it is a 16" barrel, but I've had no issues.

I always wanted a Crickett! and a Heritage RR

I have a Beretta 950BS Minx that is chambered in 22 Short.

I have a Winchester Model 69, a bolt action 22 rimfire rifle, that was my grandfather's rifle. As a child, I remember having a 22 Short magazine for the gun. I'm do not remember if the short magazine came with the gun when my father past away. I have not fired the rilfe in a long time.

Just scored some .22 Short CCi and I have no idea what to do with it. It was $7.50 a box/100 at Walmart! had to get it!

What do people use this ammo for?

My Marlin 39AS and my Ruger Bearcat Shopkeeper.

Hi capacity plinking with the Marlin. Easier ejection with short brass with the short ejector stroke Shopkeeper.

My now-deceased FIL used them on starlings. The flying varmints would flock to the trees at the back of his property. He'd kill dozens with an old Marlin bolt action before they would move away. I'd shoot with him when I could. The CBs wouldn't feed from the magazine of my CZ so I had to load singly. Great memories.

The crickets were great little shooters tho I haven't shot one in 20+ years. When things get back to normal I may pick one up.
Mines great. Total impulse buy, it's both a nice range toy and works great for small game. The short LOP isn't a big deal and when I'm wearing a coat it perfectly balances out.
While I don't do it anymore, used to sit on my porch late at night with it and pop the rats that come from the train tracks (garbage trains out of NYC). Got some pretty big ones, too. Went through the better part of a brick of Colibri that way. Tried using a .177 Gamo (can't recall the model), but it was a lot louder, even with the suppressor. With CB caps, it was a soft 'spang', not a crack.
