I used to own a H&R Hornet that shot great. The problem with it was that it had a pit in the chamber. Each of the fired cases would have a dimple in the fired case. I returned it to the factory and they replaced the barrel. Unfortunately the replacement barrel was extremely inaccurate no matter what I did.
I sold the gun but recently acquired another one. I had kept the brass from years ago and I want the resize for the new rifle (another H&R 058). The problem is that the cases seem to have a slight buckle when resized. Is there a better case lube than Lee paste? I'm very careful but some still wrinkle just a little.
I have the Lee neck sizing die but wanted to full length resize to start with the new gun. Thanks for the help.

Imperial Sizing Wax, or a mix of 50/50 Lanolin and castor oil.

The 50/50 Lanolin and castor oil is a old bullet swager's lube. It will work in very high pressure jobs, very slippery.

Easy on the lube with the hornet

It does not take much lube to resize 22 hornet brass. I usually just put some on my fingers and apply.

Good luck and shoot straight

It's possible you are using Too Much case lube.

That will result in lube dents and wrinkled brass.

Just use a little lube, then wipe off all you can get off with your fingers.

What's left will be just right.

The wrinkle is above the base. I really believe that there is something wrong with the full length sizing die. It's a Lee and I am going to buy a new body.
It actually scrapes off brass on one side. Something must be wrong. I had forgotten about this from before.

Clean the die well, then lube a case very lightly and see what it does. The difference between enough and too much lube on the Hornet case is very small.

That said, I am neck sizing my Hornet brass these days.

Scraping brass on one side is more likely to be a shell holder problem then a die problem.

Check the Lee shell holder for a burr inside the lip keeping the case from centering in it.

Wouldn't be the first one.

Also make sure there isn't a speck of cleaning media or a primer fragment stuck in it.

PS: I keep an old dental pick I got from my Dentest handy for digging around under the rim there on shell holders.

As usual, RC beat me to it, good job RC.

I've had several incidents in which the shell holder was the culprit in these type problems. So about the only thing I can add to this is, clean the shell holder well with a brush to remove any build up that might be preventing the case head from seating all the way into the shell holder.

As for lube, though I doubt that is the culprit, I would try a spray on lube like Dillon case lube. I love the stuff and use it for all my bottle neck brass. Haven't had problems with dents or stuck cases. Lube like Imperial is great, but it's also an easy lube to accidentally apply heavier than intended if your not careful.
