I'm about to order 2500 rounds of 22 long rifle from Sportsmans guide, I have a $10 off coupon.:D I'm trying to decide between the PMC zapper 40 grain copper coated or the Remington Thunderbolt 40 grain lead. Which is better? Opinions welcome.:D

The price is the same, both are $60 for the 2500 round case.

Redneck;

I have no personal experience with either. But, I'd suggest doing a search here on both names. I don't recall too many positive comments on the Remmy stuff though.

If you are going to feed a semi-auto, I'd go with the PMC copper coated ammunition. I have found that the copper coated stuff feeds more consistantly.

The complaint about the Thunderbolts is misfires. I have not shot the PMC stuff, but I see no reason why it shouldn't be okay. I need to try some.

I just made a Walmart run yesterday and got 6 of the 550 round bricks of Federal Bulk for about the same cost. It's a pretty good round for me. Wokrs reasonably well in my guns and cheap.

I like the Federal bulk too. Years ago, I always chose Remington ammo as my first choice. Not any more. CCI stuff is very good. Wolf target ammo is very good.

I'd go with the PMC zapper. That feeds and fires consistently in both my ruger MKIII and savage bolt.
I do have some thunderbolts but only bring them out with the bolt rifle as they fail to eject frequently in my pistol.

My top choice is the same as others have said, Federal bulk pack (black and gold box) for 9 dollars/550.

Just jump on the Zapper and smile.
Truth be told I have only shot a couple odd boxes of the Thunderbolt and I remember it as being OK but nothing very special.
I have shot possibly 5000 rounds of Zapper the last couple of years, mostly in my Ceiner AR conversion. It has been hands down the most accurate high velocity ammo I have shot . It is super clean and every bit as reliable as CCI Mini Mag which most shooters think is the best.
Just don't fall in love with it because it is not made any more. Pmc bought rimfire ammo (possibly from Aguila in Mexico)and sold it under their name but they are now out of the rimfire buisness.
My opinion is if you can buy most any of the PMC rimfire ammo for a reasonable price you should jump on it.
I have tried the wall mart route for rimfire ammo but the results have been mixed and my local W mart only seems to have a couple of boxes on the shelf at any given time. It is far easier to shop on the computer and wait for the ups guy.A full case of rimfire ammo (ten bricks-5000 rounds)takes up very little space. The only regrets I have ever had about buying cases of ammo is the case of Wolf MT I bought for $130----I wish I had bought 5 or 10 cases!

Been using Aguila target myself. Has been the most consistant in my savage. Costs a few more pennies , but haven't had a single dud and has kept the nicest groups outa anything else I've been putting through it . Worst stuff so far has been remington . Have had many a squib load with the thunderbolts . Can practically see the round go down range :scrutiny:

I went ahead and ordered the 2500 round case of the PMC zapper's.:D Next month, if they still have them in stock, I'm gonna grab a case of 5000.:D

.22's really need several brands tried to find what they like best. Gunsmith friend of mine who shoots lots of .22 said cases between brands vary lots in headspace. Mine seem to like Winchester T22 target. They like the Russian stuff also.

Get anything but Thunderbolts

and maybe Remington Golden Bullets. If fact, just stay away from any Remington 22LR to be safe.

My favorite is Federal 510 Champion (used to be Lightening)

Federal Bulk pack---fast, cheap, easy, and always a good time.

Can't say as though I've ever heard of PMC, but as long as it doesn't say Remington Thunderbolt on the box it ought to shoot well enough.

What's odd to me is that ten years ago I'd be endorsing the Remington ammo because it never gave me trouble. The stuff I've bought in the last 6 years has been marginal in accuracy, and dreadful in reliable ignition. The "top honors" for accuracy in my rifle goes to Federals cheapo American Eagle. The worst most jamomatic ammo of all time is Winchester Xpert. Literally the only gun that could get it to fire halfway reliably is my .22LR revolver!

i must be the only left in the world to have great luck with remington .22LR. i just finished a 550 box of golden whatevers, and im just getting into these thunderbolts, not one ftf, or any other trouble of any kind. i must be lucky.

Remington Thunderbolt is high velocity bare lead ammo.

I was with a friend at Bass Proshops and they had a sale on RemTurd, $6 a brick. We each bought one, then went to a favorite range. About a hundred rounds into it, his 10/11 started to shoot wicked flyers. For the rest of the day, nothing shot well out of that rifle. That rifle shot 3MOA at 100yards with decent ammo. When we got to cleaning the guns, it turned out his was completely leaded. It took him three days, with overnight soakings of lead remover to get the barrel clean.

I have a rifle that really likes Remington Golden Bullets, but I will never again touch Remington Thunderbolts.

My advice to ANYONE before they buy a large amount of .22 lr ammo, especially for a semiauto, would be to see what works reliably in YOUR gun first. .22 semiautos can be finicky with ammo, no matter how well made, and there is no one best ammo for all of them.

Like bumm said, see what works in your gun. My Remington 597 feed most ammo well, but chokes on Remington lead. I have always had bad luck with CCI's handgun ammo, but their .22LR functioned flawlessly.

I have never had a problem with Wally World Federal 550 packs.

If you have a bolt action, it might not be as crucial, however.

I, like others, use Federal bulk from Wally World.

I've never used PMC zapper but have had bad luck with thunderbolts.
