22 long rifle ammo?

My Savage likes Federal 36 grain copper plated hollow point (Like $5-8 and Wal-Mart for 550 rounds).

My Marlin 60 feeds Remington 40 grain high velocity solid points better then it does the Federal hollow points.

Both my rifles hate Winchester Thunderbolt ammo. I bought a large pack of them about four years ago, and I think I have had at least one failure to feed 9 out of 10 magazines. I still have over 200+ rounds of it, and I guess it will have to wait until I get a bolt action to be used because I refuse to make my semi-rifles eat it.

I wouldn't buy any large quantity of ammo until I shot a few boxes out of my guns to see how it performs.

I feel why buy bulk ammo if it shoots okay or fair. The purpose of shooting is to hit, and hit consistantly in a small group what your aiming at.

Otherwise you might as well be shooting bird shot.

No need to try Thunderbolts. I have tried 6-8 types of .22LR ammo, and the Thunderbolts were by FAR the worst. Inconsistent pops, lots of vertical stringing, FTF's , etc.

Don't do them.

Well, it depends on the use. If you're out plinking tin cans and milk jugs in the desert, having a spread of 1/4 to 1/2 inch at 25 yards isn't a big deal. Same thing with shooting stationary clays with the .22.

Same kinda reason why folks shoot cheap centerfire ammo, like Wolf and mil-surp...it's cheap, good enough, and fun.

Now, for accurate shooting, bulk ammo clearly isn't appropriate...

I actually made it through 49 thunderbolts without 1 singe FTF. The the next box I got a FTF every 3 rounds.

Well my case of 2500 rounds of PMC Zapper's arrived today! Upon looking at the box, it says "Eley primed for reliable ignition". I know Eley makes top quality 22 ammo, so this should be good stuff. I like what I see, I think I made the right choice.
