Just remember there is "ideal" and then there is 'what you have'
If you are considering bringing your 308 or 223 rifle, you
might consider investing in a Ruger 10/22 with Tech-Sights, for about the same price.
If you have a bolt action 22, and don't want to spend the $$ on a new semi-auto 22, then bring the bolt gun.
The only rifle that will really detract from your learning experience would be a single load/shot rifle or a muzzle loader.
Ideal, semi-auto, mag fed, aperture sights, with a USGI web sling.
In order: IMHO
1) USGI web sling
2) Mag fed
3) Aperture sights
4) Semi-auto
Lots of folks bring bolt guns and do very well, learn a bunch and we have had many Rifleman use bolt guns. They just require a little more work. Like an AK can shoot Rifleman, but the shooter has to work harder.
Bring what you have, yep, that is the "motto", we will teach you to shoot it better. You will still learn a bunch, and you can see what other rigs people shoot, to determine if you want to invest in a different trainer rifle.
There is much more to an Appleseed than the rifles too.
