I'm thinking about a 22 semi. For some reason, the Browning line appeals to me. A friend has a Buckmark. The SS more compact model with a fiber optic looks interesting.

Other friends have Rugers but I fear the dreaded disassembly problem. I'm a tad of klutz although I have mastered my 1911 and AR.

I've seen the Beretta NEO and SW22As - they are cheaper but big. Not really interested in the rail.

I might shoot steel with it but I don't dig specialized guns as I like more 'realistic' guns as I shoot for fun and don't care if I win vs. a space platform gun.

So, what y'all think of the Browings?

do not fear the ruger disassembly! This link helped me do this to my new MKIII 22/45, and get it back together again.

I've had it apart so many times in the past three weeks I can do it in a few mins w/o looking at the instructions.

Get the Ruger, you will love it!

My wife has a NEOS. It is a nice gun.

Given the choice, I'd get a Buckmark. Fine, fine pistols and lots of choices.

i love my Neos ! teh only problem i have with it is my sons keep borrowing it whenever they want to go to the range ! The only problem is they dont bring it back ! :) hey it keeps them shooting ! so it is worth it ! Kevin

Love em! Impressively accurate stock, excellent ergonomics, well built, good looking, fun.

Nice gun! I need to get fiber optic sights for my Buckmarks, wish I had bought them stock.

Ruger takedown is tedious but not difficult. I had to read the instructions the first three times I did it, but never again. I can field strip and clean a Ruger or a Buckmark with about the same amount of time and effort.

You've got the great opportunity to try both the Buckmark and Ruger. Handle and fire both before you decide.
I'm partial to the Buckmark, myself.

I'd go with either the Buckmark or Ruger myself unless you want something a bit higher end like the Smith 41 or one of the old classics like the Woodsman or the High Standard target models.

Go with a steel .22lr. They will last forever and the weight helps to make it a stable shooting platform. Any brand or model should last you a lifetime.

If you can put the trigger-system of the 1911 back together, then assemblying a Ruger semiautomatic is no prolem.

I have a Ruger 22/45. Excellent firearm--accurate, well made, and hasn't given me any problems whatsoever. Takedown is not a problem as long as you follow directions.

I have a Ruger 22/45 MkIII as well. Field stripping for cleaning is very easy after you've done it once or twice. Full disassembly of the frame doesn't need to happen very often at all - maybe every 10k rounds. It is harder than a 1911 frame but I managed it on the first try without having ever read any instructions, anywhere.

I am VERY satisfied with it. It now wears a Paclite receiver and a suppressor.

If you shoot the 1911 much, you might want to get one of the models that maintains the same relationship between grip & sights as the 1911. I think the 22/45 Rugers have that characteristic.

My only long term experience with a .22 semi is the "military frame" High Standard Supermatic Trophy model I picked up in the early 70's for 3 gun matches. I believe having the same grip/sight angle does make it simpler to move back & forth between the .22 & .45.

I agree, try both if you can (i'm a big fan of whatever feels best in my grip) but i LOVE my Buckmark Camper.
Although i've heard i'm not the only one who's had trouble doing a full disassembly without bending the spring guide.
Still, i fired a friend's S&W Model 41 last month and both he and i liked the Buckmark better. :)

For a first .22 semiauto, I'd go with an S&W 22A, Ruger MKII/III or Buck Mark. All are reliable, well-built and accurate pistols. The choice is which one feels best to you.

The 22A is the simplest to field strip. It may be the most "ammo sensitive." Mine does best with SV ammo. It is probably the lowest price.

I have a Buck Mark Standard. I like the trigger. The pistol is accurate, seems to be well built and has a good feel.

I have 3 Rugers (MKIII Hunter, MKIII 22/45 and MKII GC). Rugers have the best aftermarket if you want to tinker and tweak the pistol. If you can field strip a 1911, the Ruger is no problem. Lindermant's link to the guntalk-online site is a valuable link. Frankly, I'd rather field strip a Ruger than a Buck Mark because I don't like having to unscrew the sight base on the Buck Mark.

Nothing wrong with the Buckmark, but I happen to like Rugers better. Dude, I wouldn't worry about disassembly that much. First of all, you rarely need to disassemble it as .22's do not require anywhere near as much maintenance as you would think. I, for example, have around 5000 rounds through my MkII and it looks and works just as well as it did brand new. I clean it maybe once every couple of years out of general principle, but they really don't need it. Second, if you simply follow the instructions in the manual, it isn't that hard. It is not particularly intuitive, but it isn't physics either.

Anyway, buy what you like as there are a lot of perfectly good choices out there, but I wouldn't make disassembly one of the factors. Maybe for a centerfire pistol, but not for a .22.

.....or you could take the high road and get one of these :)

Never owned a Browning Buckmark but fired my buddies. Shoots great. Well made.

I've got a 17 year old Buckmark 5.5 Target that has 10s of thousands of rounds through it. A well-built, fun gun. Lots o' fun with a red-dot sight. But you really can't go wrong with any quality .22pistol, especially with the cost of centerfire ammo these days. Shoot as many as you can and buy the one(s) you like best.

i have a brownig buckmark camper and i like it. although the slide release came off it seams to of been glued on it works fine it seems to be a little picky on ammo. Federal CCI or remington high velocity work fine

"amprecon," I sure like the looks of your Cheetah! Is it a fun shooter?
