.22 still hard to find?

My LGS has CCI minimags in 100 sleeves and "choot 'em" packs, CCI Standard Vel, Remington 1400 buckets, bricks of Rem Golden, Thunderbolts, Win SuperX. I don't even think about 22 ammo anymore.

How much are those mini mags?

Anywhere online with them??

Strictly hit or miss here. Some of the bigger stores are getting shipments in. I scored a total of 600 rnds, 200 of Winchester and 400 CCI minimags. 2 of the 100 rnd packs were $19.05.

My LGS has bricks of CCI standard velocity .22lr for $50.

There was plenty. Probably because people still don't want to pay .10 a round...

There seems to be alot of CCI SV hitting the shelves. My LGS also has plenty. It is $45 a brick. When it dips to $35, I might buy.

Went to Gander mountain today & the local walfart & a local gun shop no 22 all with in a mile of each other. Gander mountain had a small amount that came in & it sold out in less than an hour so I was told. If my son in law did not find it down state I would not be able to get it.

OBTW thanks Gander Mountain for no longer stocking slip top 20 round ammo boxes nice move give me another reason not to shop in your store.

3 years of this totally sucks.

Quite often, people find .22LR by waking up before sunrise to visit WallyWorld, or entering a generic store when it opens at 1000. No thank you.

But if so, people tend to avoid mentioning this, which implies that they can find bricks of it all day long, anytime they walk in.

I've seen it during the middle of the day at our local Walmart on a number of occasions lately, which means:
1. Either the hoarders have more than they can get rid of.
2. The insiders (working with the hoarders) have been moved out of the department.

Our local gun shop has been overrun with 22 for quite some time.

He got a ton of Federal AutoMatch - wasn't moving so he reduced the price from $24.95 to $19.95 / box and says it will be that price until it's gone.
He's barely made a dent in what's on the shelf, and it's been sitting there for over three weeks (he may also have cases in the back).

He's also had a lot of other brands / box sizes, but at this point all I'll buy is the occasional oddball that I haven't tried, and CCI Standard Velocity bricks, which run either $39.95 or $29.95, depending on his supplier.

I just got a brick @ 170.. not thats anything to brag about... lol

only seen CCI's once or twice in the last couple years and left em on the shelf for others.

My local gun/pawn establishment finally had shelves full of .22lr this weekend when I was in there with no restrictions. I bought a couple hundred rounds for $20.

It appears to be back in stock in "normal" quantities in my area of the southeast, finally. I bought a couple of 350rd boxes of bulk Federal at Gander Mountain yesterday. I did have to ask if it was n stock, but no limit was mentioned. $25 per box. I intend to be stocking up in preparation for the next panic.

I walked through the local Cabela's today after picking up some 5.56. Centerfire is as available and cheap as it has been any time since 2012 (with some bump up for inflation). To my great surprise, the signs with limits on rimfire ammo are now gone. However, the only brick of bulk they had was a 525 pack of Golden Bullets (garbage, IMO). The only CCI I saw was Velocitors at 7.49/50 and not much of it. The only thing they had any quantity of was some kind of expensive match ammo at $90/brick.

Supply may be starting to catch up, but it isn't there yet and process are considerably higher than they used to be.

One local Walmart has the ammo cage behind the counter, which makes it hard to tell what's in stock.

I asked the employee if there was any .22 ammo.

He rolled his eyes and groaned "No" before walking off.

Did you apologize for disturbing him? Maybe you should have.

.22 LR is the most sought after in times like this . Its the most enjoyable caliber and almost everyone has a .22 handgun or rifle to boot. Maybe the next in line is the 5.56 or 7.62 x 39 that replaced the .30 30.

For those who remember Sandy Hook and the screams of the anti-gun crowd triggered the shortage. Immediately following Sandy Hook all ammunition was affected as well as accessories like high capacity magazines. About the only ammunition I was seeing commercially was 243 Winchester. :)

Eventually ammunition returned to the shelves with the exception of 22 LR. I can load everything I shoot and calibers I don't shoot. If need be I can make my own bullets. I can even make a maybe reliable primer, albeit it is difficult. However, I can't make 22 LR, not something easily made or hand loaded. As soon as it hit the shelves it was gone. Thus I figure the 22 LR was the last to return and it seems has yet to fully return.

There were lessons learned for everyone caught short which is great because it has happened before and will happen again.

...and this is why, I believe, that it will be another year or two, with no new panic like a Hillary getting elected, before finding .22LR everywhere at whatever the new "normal" cost will be. (I'm guessing it will be 7¢ a round).

It will be scarce because many of us learned a hard lesson. I don't shoot much .22LR and only had about 1500 rounds when Sandy Hook happened. In the 3 years since, I've only shot 200 rounds. However, I have picked up 5,000 rounds when I've seen it on sale (about 7¢ a round) and want another 5,000. 10,000 rounds should hold me thru my retirement in a few years.

I know I am not the only one who has started to "hoard!!" .22LR ammo. That is the reason it is still not readily available at good prices. The new shooters don't know how the game is played. They'll find out the next shortage and we'll all be ready when it happens.

I reload my other calibers and I have to admit that the shortage of primers and powder caught me off guard. I never ran out but I also learned a lesson there as well. Never again.

I'ma not gonna get caught again...
There are many other people who are thinking the same thing. And that's precisely why .22LR is still hard to find--the demand is much larger than it ever has been because many people, instead of just buying what they plan to shoot in the next couple of weeks are also stocking up for retirement/the next administration/whatever.

Pre-panic I was shooting 500 to 1k a week, every week, year round. Given the current spotty availability, I cannot buy 2 weeks worth at a time. Except for monthly silhouette matches, I have all but given up .22 shooting with budget ammo. I still shoot BR 2-3 times a month. Thankfully match ammo has been unaffected for the most part.

I wonder if that's because they can't find enough to "shoot in the next couple of weeks" within the "next couple of weeks."

Medwheeler: Funny word twist and I tend to think that you have it right. After a while you just give up. It becomes too much trouble to buy unless you just wander on to it while doing other shopping. Me, I substitute fishing and it doesn't really bother me a bit. But I do have a pretty big cache of 22LR already and it is just a matter or resource allocation.

I also think that promotional grade 22LR will continue to be in short supply because those that could not buy it easily before will start picking up 1000 rounds or more at a time when prices drop a bit. The only promotional grade stuff I will pay $0.08-$010 per round is CCI HV. Who knows where prices are headed.
