This is one of, if not the most effective muzzle brakes, I have tried. If it is still uncomfortable for you to shoot with one of these on, you need a .22 Hornet, .221 fireball or something similar with less case capacity or a semiauto .223 to absorb some of the shoulder abuse.

I would rather take the recoil than the noise unless I am competing though.
A suppressor is a much better idea IMO, two birds with one stone, so to speak.
