i ran into something i wasn't expecting today, i was trying to seat hornady 75gr hpbt's on 25.3gr of powder and my dillon seating die was denting the bullet jacket where it was pushing it in. i was seating to mag length so i was probably compressing quite a bit. the dent appeared a good .2 before i achieved mag length.

i swapped the die out for a lee seating die and the problem went away....

i am assuming this is just one of those wierd situations between different manufacturers, but i just wasn't expecting it out of a dillon die. could i have screwed up the set up or something?

dillon 550 if that matters.

comments welcome.

All it is is the Dillon seating stem doesn't match the bullet ogive quite right and the Lee one does.

Probably send Dillon the stem and a few bullets and they can fix it for you.

But then it might mark some other bullet profile it doesn't mark now.

Easy to radius that sharp edge with the seater stem chucked up in a drill press. I did it with my Redding and RCBS dies. Not sure about the Dillon...
