So, tonight my wife and I stroll into our local podunk town grocery store for whatever we went in to get, and I happened to notice a small display of ammo on a shelf kind of close to the entrance. For those of you that haven't experienced small town American life, this is not at all unusual for this time of the year. So, I glanced to see what calibers they had. There were some .308, .30-06, .270, .25-06, and this one little box of .22 LR 500 rounds. The box was marked $3.99. I quickly looked at the prices on the the other caliber boxes, unfortunately they were between $21.00 and $29.00/box, so I grabbed the brick of .22s and headed for the register before my wife even knew where I had gone. I kept thinking, man surely it's a wrong sticker and the girl at the register will know the correct price when she scans the barcode. She scanned it, no price came up, so she entered $3.99 and hit enter! SWEET! I walked out grinning like a cheshire cat. I wish they had 5-10 more bricks. I'd have cleaned them out without thinking twice about it. :D

Since it didn't come up with the barcode I'm guessing it was old stock. They only bring the ammo out in the fall.

In MI we have a pricing law. Kuds to you for finding a good deal. I fee that most people who shoot and buy guns & ammo will find at least one deal worth writing about every once in a while. I am lined up to to buy a pardner pump 20ga with a 21" barrel and modified choke tube, with a tac-light for $120. What a steal! Regardless of where it came from (china) that's a good deal for a pump shogun. Lets turn this into the good deal thread!

Well I'm certainly not stupid enough to walk up to the counter and say, "I think these are priced way too low, could you please add another 10-15 dollars on the price so I can feel good about my neuotic, uptight do-good self?" Give me a break! I paid the price on the box, and did so with good honest, hard earned money.

walker944,

great deal. Don't listen to the nay sayer's, they are just jealous. What kind was it?

That's the way I see it too. There are always those that cry "foul", when someone else shoots and scores....but, when there was no foul commited.

Winchester Super X High Velocity.

I can't fault you or anyone for paying what the box was marked. It was probably mispriced, but that's life. The reason I think it was mispriced is because when I was a kid .22LR wasn't that cheap even in the dark ages. :;
I usually paid a penny a round or 50 cents per box. I could usually afford one or two boxes per week. So $3.99 per brick hasn't been seen for over 40 years.

What brand was it? [Added a few seconds later] Nevermind - you and I were simulposting. Super X at that price is a darned good deal. (I'll bet it was supposed to be $39.90 because about 6 years ago Super X was in the range of $15 to $20 per brick.)

they sell ammo is your grocery store?

In the Texas Hill Country deer season is KING of the Fall. And, yes, just like charcoal and lighter fluid in the summer....our grocery stores (in the small towns) have camo and ammo in the Fall. :D

I guess I'm just too old fashoned not to think of it the same as shop lifting.

My self, I would have talked to someone in charge instead of the cashier. Not condeming what you did, just stating the reason why it would bother me.

With any situation there can be good and bad. Perhaps whoever put the products out--even a manager maybe--now realizes to double check things before putting them out. So it was a learning experience, in this case paying for the mistake cost actual money.

I remember when I worked in retail and there was a thumb drive on sale, but even the computer printouts of the pricetags from the website were low priced. Anyhow, I and a coworker bought one, but the thing ended up breaking in a couple weeks anyway so I guess that's karma.

Guys, if a store misprices an item that's their problem. It's not the least bit dishonest to take advantage of it.

Good find.

I don't understand the folks getting up in arms about this guy paying the price on the box. It stated 3.99, he paid 3.99... oh wait, no.... the box stated 3.99 and when she rang it up I am sure there was tax added... so who is not "high road" now. Him or the store.

See, we can all nitpick.

The guy got a good deal. Good one on you. I wish my local shop would mismark boxes of ammo sometimes.

Well walker the only way to make this right in my eyes, would be to mail the ammo to me. I will refund you the $3.99 and make sure the .22lr ammo gets properly "disposed" of so this doesn't happen again. Really though, i wish I could find a deal like that. I recently bought a Model 12 with vent rib for $250. I haven't recieved it yet and its been close to a month so maybe it wasn't a good deal.

Cut the guy some slack, I would have done the same thing.

Bringing it to the store's attention would have been like reminding the teacher that she forgot to assign homework.

Thanks for letting the rest of us know ou screwed over your podunk grocery store.

Lets us all know to never do business with you. Very high road, very, remember what goes around comes around.

Plus 1, this tells us where our society is going, but then I'm old and remember when we all looked out for one another. This was before the me, me, me, its all about me generation.
