22LR-How many have a revived interest?

I love the .22.

I have:

Stevens Favorite (about 1895)
Stevens #26 Crackshot (about 1915)
Springfield M1922 MKII
Remington 541X (OCMP rifle)
Marlin 15Y (actually my youngest daughter's gun)
Kimber M82 (my squirrel gun and understudy for my centerfire bolt guns)
Ruger MKII automatic.
Colt Woodsman (made in 1938)
Colt Officer's Model Match revolver
Argentine M1927 with Colt Service Ace conversion kit mounted
Fed Ord "Kit" M1911 with Ciener conversion kit mounted.

I am about to start shooting more 22 lr. Mine has been sitting idol for 10 years now. I am also shooting a lot more ML as well. I got most of my ML stuff on clearance when I lived in MT, and it was cheap, as they had no special season for it.

I have two .22 rifles, a Remigton 597 and a Winchester 9422. Like to shoot with it occasionally. But I get very fast bored with those .22. Good for target parctice, but I miss the recoil and flash of a 7.62x54r out of my Mosin Nagant M44:D

I have just acquired a Savage Model 19NRA, due to a passing in the family. I believe that it was manufactured in 1933. It is in good shape, not much rust, and the blueing is good. My question is can I safely shoot this older gun with "newer" 22lr bullets? ie high velocity? Thanks for any help or suggestions.

Sure -- it was made about a decade after "high-veocity" ammunition became common, and is plenty strong. On the other hand, for best accuracy it may perfer standard velocity ammo.

I never did lose interest in .22's as they have always been my favorite. Interest has changed over the years as I started out with a single shot Winchester and went to a Marlin 39 Golden Mountie for years. Started out with scopes with 3/4 inch tubes 4x and now generally shoot a 24X or 36x from a bench. Seem's like the older I get the more I am into accuracy and now have Anschutz's. Best part is that over the years they have all been a lot of fun and there isn't better time to be had than a .22 no matter what your choice is.

I've always shot .22 lr from the start but didn't really get interested in it until 1999 (IIRC) when I got an Anschütz 54.18 MSR. I had never had anything quite as accurate before and it was at this time (related to the gun) where my views on accuracy/precision changed (in short : accuracy/precision is KING). My interest was elevated at that time until I really got into modding my 10/22s (previously, I had a few modded by builders and modded one myself with simple drop-ins). After re-modding my previous build (by me), things really took off. I now shoot .22 lr about 60% of the time. (30% .17 HMR, the other 10% centerfire)

I have always spent a good deal of time with the ole .22LR. I learned with it and have always enjoyed knockin around tin cans, popping plastic bottles, and punchin holes in paper. I firmly believe that good shooting habits and technique are easier to develop and maintain with the lil .22 than any other round. In my not to limited experience I have seen a number of people ignore the .22 and go with something bigger before they developed those good habits. Trigger time is necessary for most folks to stay profecient and the .22 offers more of it for a small price.

I have never lost interest in the .22 long rifle. I've had one ever since I was 10 years old and have a few more now. I always take one or two with me to the range or just out plinking.

I've always been an advocate of the .22. Though now I am going to have to pick up a .22 "blaster" to replicate AR-15 training, beyond my basic marksmanship .22 (10-22 I use to practice service rifle) and the Winchester 9422 I got first.

In fact, my range buddy who always has the nicest stuff, SBR rifles and SBRed HK94s and so on, he just picked up a GSG-5 and is planning on that .22 LR SIG P226 kit. Never thought I'd see the day HE became a .22 guy!

About 65 percent of my shooting is with .22LR. I shoot a Remington 552, S&W K22, Ruger Mk II and I recently spent $800.00 on a new Weatherby MK XXII. Love my rimfires!

Those Weatherby's sure are nice! Congratulations on a fine purchase. Mine too got added to the other ones that I shoot that may in fact shoot equally as well. Variety is the spice of life and you can get variety even in 22's.

I love to try to get good groups with these rifles. I equally like to try to shoot good groups with centerfire rifles, but you know, I started with a 22 and 22's still do it for me. I figure if I can shoot a 22 well, I can probably shoot most anything pretty well barring extreme recoil.

The first gun i personally bought was a Winchester model 190 from K-Mart for $48.00 OTD. I've never looked back. I'll buy a 22 when i really don't want a new gun.

When i go to shoot at my buddies land i look in the safe and eliminate one gun after another and nearly always pick a 22. Easy on the ears, wallet and nerves. No brass to pick up clean and reload.

I still don't know how they make the ammo, package it and ship it and sell it for the price they do. Its the best ammo deal on the planet.

A person armed with a 22 rifle, 12 ga shotgun and a 30-30 is pretty well covered. Yes you can change that to a 30-06 and add a couple of handguns and be very well armed. A 22 mag thrown in would be nice also.

nothing like being on a riverbank with a brick of 22lr
my first and maybe fav gun is a 10/22

How many of you are in the same condition and what are you shooting?
the .22LR is a fun round to shoot, and very cheap too, i have other guns but i enjoy shooting my Savage Mark II

I love 22's, especially semi-autos. I just bought my step-daughter her first .22 rifle because she did so well on her first rifle-shoot a few weeks ago. She hasn't got it yet because I'm going to respray the black plastic stock in a neon, shocking pink color first, but I'm hoping it turns out cool.

Zach S,

For your 1911 conversion, be sure to look at the Marvel Precision one. The accuracy on these things is phenomenal. It is not uncommon to see them on the line at bullseye pistol competitions.

And what do you mean, boring?
Still undecided on the conversion. I'd like the Marvel with a threaded bbl, in case I get a supressor, but I'd also like the AA kit that offers the slide lock.

Yes, I think its boring. No recoil, no bang.

my Ruger 10/22 has been feeling jealous ever since i brought home the Weatherby Mark XXII (the old semi-auto one)

on the bolt action side, i finally got my Romo 69 some company when i picked up a Anschutz 1712 late last year. i have a CZ 452 Ameriacn on the way from CDNN for < $300

what going to kill me is the cost of glass for all of them
