22LR-How many have a revived interest?

Boring? Feh. Report and recoil do not a fun round make.

Not true for me. I just bought a 357 magnum ported Taurus revolver and was giggling like a school girl when I shot it.

Walls of flames have *always* impressed me. :D

I have a few .22lr firearms. 2 pistols and 2 rifles. I don't shoot the rifles all that much but the pistols I do shoot a bit. Compared to the center fire pistols they all get shot about the same. When I go to the range alone I enjoy shooting the .22LR's but when I am with my G?F she shoots the centerfire and i tend to shoot more rimfire.

I would reload but I have no space to setup a work area so I will be resorting to shooting less of the centerfire and more of the rimfires.

I did just get a 44mag and I plan to get some use at the range.

I have two .22LR rifles and three milsurps at the moment. I bought the bolt action rifle so I would take more time and use less ammo than my semi-auto. Well, it was a good idea, but I killed about 300 rounds in less than an hour. So much for that. I can load the bolt action as fast as I can shoot the semi-auto if I concentrate on the shot. I enjoy the 8mm Mauser the most, but it is much more expensive than the .22s. I tried some .22 shorts. They are quiet enough to comfortably use without hearing protection at the range. I don't know if they would be quiet enough to use in the basement. I want some of those powder less .22s so I can shoot it with my pellet gun, in the house.

I can't say resurgence for me, but just an increase in shooting this past couple of years. Bought 3 .22s to go along with it. 10/22 for my wife (she shot my old one well), a Remmie 597 and Ruger 22/45 for me. The 597 took a little tuning, but has turned out dandy. The same grip angle as my 1911 has me practicing more with the Ruger when we are out on a family day just burning bricks of .22s. No, they don't have the big bang and muzzle flash to make this end interesting, but lots of reactive targets downrange can really keep the fun level high.

I never was interested in the 22LR. I did pick up a nice 10/22, but I just sold it due to lack of interest.

I used the money to buy more 7.62 x 51 surplus ammo

A revived interest, not at all. I never lost the intense interest in it. Fact is, the lowly .22LR is my all-time favorite caliber in pistols, revolvers, carbines and rifles. They are cheap alternatives for trigger pull practice. They are quiet enough, and potent enough to engage in varmint hunting out to 200 yards. What other round can be had for the unbelievable price of $99.00 for 5,000 rounds (Remington Thunderbolts)? That sounds like a lot, but given how quickly my daughter fires them off, it doesn't always last long.

In terms of a bullet in a pinch, my uncle hunted his first whitetailed deer with a .22LR. This was back in the days before the caliber restrictions. As I recall it, he said it took 5 shots.

So, yeap. We have a few .22s:

Rifles:
T/C Arms' .22 Classic
Savage Mark II

Handguns:
Ruger Mark II 50th Anniversary
Ruger Bearcat
T/C Arms' G2 Contender w/ .22LR MATCH chamber
NAA .22LR mini-revolver
Kimber .22LR 1911 slide

If you could hit a varmit at 200 yards with a .22 you're good. There is quite a drop at that range.

"Walls of flames have *always* impressed me."

Try shooting magnums in a Single-Six Convertible with a short barrel. Mine is 5.5" and is most entertaining at night or on a dim indoor range. You get a huge fireball. And remember to keep your fingers away from the cylinder gap because there's a lot of sideways action too.

I've been a rimfire fan for 50+ years.

I was just recalling the other day how much fun my first 22, a Rem. Nylon 66, was for me. I'm currently looking around at modern variants of it since the old nylons have turned into a commodity.

It's funny how finding the right 22 rifle for me has turned into a serious quest, whereas buying that first one was more like "hey, this is cool!" Maybe I'll go back to that criteria. :D

I am still shooting my Remington Model 41 Targetmaster my dad gave me 50 years ago. I am sure its fired over 100,000 rounds. Still looks and shoots good.
