Can't really tell ya (I'm sure others in here will), but this is at least the 2nd 22 panic? When did the panic for 22s officially kick in?
Hey guys,
When did the panic for 22s officially kick in?

This was really interesting seeing some actual numbers on how many new .22's there were made and shows how at this stage the .22 shortage is mainly because of increased demand and not hoarding.
This is not news.
20 or 30 million shooters wanting to stock 3 or 4 bricks of rimfire each is a desire that requires 30 to 60 billion rounds to satiate. If domestic ammo makers are turning out 8 million rounds daily in a standard 5 day work week, it'll take at least 15 years to catch up.
Actually the shortage began in 1908, and continued on until the Sandy Hook massacre in Dec. 2012 , which gave it a big boost, but appears to be lessening now.

I didn't even notice it until a full century had gone by. Guess I don't shoot enough of it...
HaHa! So true!Besides, it's only hoarding when the other guy does it.
