22LR "Tactical" ???

The cheapest .22lr I've seen lately was ~$.08/round. MiniMags, when available, 8 to 10 cents/round. For $20 extra per thousand, I use a lot of MiniMags. CCI Standard gives excellent accuracy, but costs about the same as MiniMags. I buy it for backyard plinking, as it is very accurate and considerably quieter.

Just got back from the new (2 years) gun shop in town - he had a load of the American Eagle Suppressor 22 - first time I've ever seen this mythical round!

Grabbed a couple of boxes (may go back for more) - $36.99 / brick - a bit more than I'd like to pay, but these are "specialty" ammo.

I plan on using these suppressed out of my rifles since they're sub-sonic AND plated. I'm assuming these are Federal's equivalent of CCI Standard Velocity with the added bonus of being plated (keeps the silencers much cleaner).

With my pistols, I just shoot whatever supersonic plated round I can find (not too difficult) as the rounds lose enough velocity out of the short barrel to stay subsonic (cheaper and cleaner than shooting CCI Standard Velocity of of the pistols).

Just the FAQs:
American Eagle Suppressor AE22SUP1
45 grain CPRN, 970 fps. $36.99 / brick = .07398 cents per rd.

CCI Standard Velocity 50035
40 grain LRN, 1,170 fps. $36.99 / brick = .07398 cents per rd.

I've also bought some of the CCI for $34.99 (.06998 / rd.) and $29.99 (.05998 / rd.)

FWIW, S&W 15-22 owner manual recommends:
• CCI Standard Velocity
• Federal American Eagle
• CCI Mini-Mag
• Federal GameShock
• Aguila Super Extra Std. Velocity
• Winchester Super-X High Velocity
• Aguila Super Extra High Velocity

They also recommend you stay away from the following, as their tests show they do not perform reliably:
• Remington Golden Bullet
• Remington Thunderbolt
• Remington Target 22
• Winchester Wildcat
• Any and all sub-sonic brands and types

Just curious, where did you find that information? I cannot find that recommendation anywhere in their manual. S&W's online version is identical to my printed version.

I can confirm the Remington Golden Bullet will not feed reliably from a full 25 round magazine. If you prepare a mag to less than full capacity (say, 10 to 15 bullets) they feed fine. They also feed reliably from the 10 round mag.

I tried all the other manufacturers you mentioned, plus a few others, with the exception of Aguila or any subsonic rounds. All work 100% reliably in my M&P 15-22. Not a single FTF or FTE, over about 300 rounds so far.

But I cannot find any such recommendation - either for or against - any particular ammunition, anywhere, for the non-Performance Center variant. If you can provide a source I'd like to know.

The only other warning they have is should you have a Peformance Center 15-22, they warn against using CCI Stingers in it (as it has a Laney Match Chamber).

That, they do say. Several places in fact.

Sho-nuff...I just checked the online version and no recommendations made!

Maybe I just dreamed it up? :D

The newer online manual covers M-lok guards - my older manual (I'm pretty sure I downloaded it from S&W on 4-5-2013) does not cover the M-lok handguards, so I guess my manual is an older version.

Don't know why the heck they'd leave out the expanded ammo recommendations in the new manual.

Let's see if I can post the old manual...hey, waddya know...it worked!
