I found a store with about 6 boxes of Win. 555 22lr. They had it priced at $75. I looked it up on some online sites after I got home. Two that had prices listed were at $35. I'm glad I didn't buy any.
I can't wait for this ammo shortage to be over!

A guy locally has listed two 1400 rnd bucket o bullets for $250 or roughly $0.09 / rnd ...mmm, still too high for me (specially fer remington rimfire ammo)
It's still listed and I'm still passing ;)

Now you know the reason they still had them. The price will eventually come back down. When it does, most will refill the shelves at home. Others won't, then will complain about the lack of availability and the price.

Rinse, repeat.

I've been finding Winchester and Aguila for $0.06 per round. I have probably got 1500+/- rounds at this price since the madness started and buy it when I see it. Also this past summer I got a 1400rd bucket for $90. There were two other buckets i wished I had bought had I known but ill be able to shoot. 22lr for a good while before I need to really fret over it. I feel for the people who can't shoot at all.

I only shoot Aguila. It's been rough finding where I am. Of course I'm at work when ammo trucks come in.

I have seen outrageous prices on ammo. It’s not bullets, but a guy on gunbroker was selling 8lb jugs of of either H-110 or H-4198 (can’t remember) for $1,400.

I realize that there are an estimated 7 million new gun owners this year, so they definitely get a pass. But for those who have been shooting for a few years and don’t supply when there’s no panic, or don’t reload, and then complain, I have much empathy.

I’ve got a few boxes of the winchester stuff. I would never pay that price for it. Decent for plinking but I shot a squirrel with it behind the shoulder as I like testing .22 hollowpoint ammo and I got explosive expansion nearly a 2” entrance wound. Could be good for quick kills on animals you don’t intend to eat but they don’t work well for squirrels in my book.

I refuse to pay scalper prices for anything. I have that luxury as I was fortunate to already have a small amount of ammo tucked away when the pandemic hit but I know not everyone did. So I can’t fault people that do pay it, especially new gun owners. However if you put in some time there is normal priced ammo available. I have been able to secure a few bricks of .22lr and even a few bricks of primers just being at the right place at the right time, I’m definitely not the guy standing outside the stores waiting for them to open so I may have just been lucky.

Ive been trying to use up an old box of 555 for years, but it has proven surprisingly difficult between misfires and jams. It wont even chamber in my M1922 and I gave up trying to run it through any of my semi-autos.

It is decently accurate from most revolvers- when it actually ignites.

I would take Remington Thunderbolts over that crud any day.

The only success I have had with Winchester .22 ammo was with their T22 target ammo and while it was fairly reliable accuracy was just around average. Tried a bulk pack of 555 ammo and while it wasn't as bad as Remington rimfire ammo I still gave up after less than 100 rounds in. I usually give the kids what's left of the box to use as it gives them practice at clearing the misfires and also slows them down a bit burning through the ammo!

It would be cool if there was a comprehensive list of .22lr ammo graded best to worst. It would be tough because every gun shoots differently and everybody has their own opinions and experience. So far I haven't found ammo my G44 won't shoot. Haven't done any accuracy testing but I've been shooting mostly Win 555 through it. Haven't had a bunch of duds. Generally speaking though, Remington is the least reliable .22lr ammo I have found.

Walmart in my area gets small amounts of ammo in pretty regularly. Was able to get 2 bricks worth (in 50 round boxes) of CCI standard for about $3.50 per 50 rounds, in the last 2 months. Got 2 50 round boxes of CCI .22mag, $11 and change each this past Tuesday. Got a Winchester 333 brick Friday for $18 something.

Sign me up for some Winchester White box .22LR. No issues with it in any of my guns, I just ran some Remington Thunderbolts thru my TX22. They are the most inconsistently loaded rounds I've ever shot. Thru just 1 mag you could hear about 3-4 different loads. Though they all went bang. I've been willing to pay $60 for a 555 box of the Winchester. The worst locally was the place I go shoot at, they were $60 for a 250rd box of Aguila or $20 for 100rd rack of Winchester Super X
