found this guy digging up my parent's front yard one evening. One shot from my 10/22 and he didnt go far. I was surprised at the amount of blood, must have gone right through the boiler room. I was also surprised at this little guy's weight. he was probably around 20 lbs.

Next time give a try at cleaning him. All white meat, much like small hogs.

On my first deer hunt ever, as a young boy I watched my dad shoot one with his .30-30 deer rifle. It cut the dilla in half.

Possum

SONG---I got 5 lbs of possum in my headlites tonite/If I run him over everything'll be alright/Make some possum gravy, what a wonderful sight/I got 5 lbs of possum in my headlites tonite.

1. they tunnel and burrow all over the place
2. it's one less to hit with my car
3. deer season hadn't opened yet and this was sort of an appetizer

Be careful handling these things. 9 banded armadillos (which that is) can carry leprosy, mostly on their feet. On a side note, did you know that armadillos almost always have identical quadruplets?

I have shot a few myself when I was younger. They can be a nuisance when hunting as they make a lot of noise which may be a good thing. About the only time I shoot them now is if their are too many of them.

Eating them is not a joke. Especially as I'm not much of one for killing without a plan for using the animal.

Score around the edge of the underside of the shell and around the top of the tail and the back of the neck. With a little effort he will peel out of the shell by pulling the tail. Skin off the belly, gut him and quarter as you would a rabbit.

It will cook up as good as a small pig.

I can't imagine that thing would taste good, but if you guys are cookin, I'll try some...

Then again, I can't imagine coons taste good either, but my grandpa used to like em quite a bit I guess.

Have seen one eaten on that Bizarre Foods show. He seemed to like it, slow cooked with veggies on the half shell if I recall correctly. And since no one here said it yet. I'll bet it tastes like Chicken.

ok wow.

First off, eating something that has any chance of having LEPROSY is off my menu period.

NO THANK YOU.

Second, that is the weirdest looking animal I have ever seen heh.

Third, nice shot. too bad the 22lr is underpowered and just a target / kids gun round :)

More like pork. I've eaten 'em. I'd rather eat hog, though. :D Didn't know about the leprosy thing back when I was a kid, sorta gives me the creeps now days. Down here, there aren't as many as where I grew up in the live oak woods. I've shot 'em, but only eaten one once. They make a good target for a kid with a .22. :D

i handled this one with gloves. I had forgotten about the leprosy thing but i knew they weren't be cleanest animals in the world.

Leprosy is a minor bacterial infection that left untreated gets worse, not unlike any other bacterial infection. 95 percent of the population is immune from it and the rest are easily treated with simple antibiotics and free of it in 2 weeks.

Off topic, but: That is a sad sad pic. Leprosy is just a bacterium. Easily dealt with in the USA. The 3rd world suffers so needlessly.

On-topic: I still would not eat a dillo. But I shoot them in the yard. Good grief they can destroy entire yards in a week!

Makes me remember the wedding cake from steel magnolias (sorry guys i love this scene)

The grooms cake is gray gravy and red velvet cake.

father of bride gets served the tail. "thank ya ... nothing like a good piece of @$$"
