Quite so. We'll be using the brass screw + lapping compound method to uniform the crown.
The M44 I'll be cutting was counterbored at some point, but the end of the rifling has become worn somehow between the armory and me. The lands just taper off rather than stop abruptly.
I'm hoping to see a noticable improvement in accuracy when that is remedied; currently around 3-4" is the best I can manage with commercial- the best surplus (czech ST) groups are around 6-7" (both at 100 yds).
Has anyone noticed their groups open up wildly when they took the bayonet adapter off of their M44? If the problem persists I'm probably going to have to put some kind of muzzle device in its place to keep the barrel happy.
