I have used serria 100gr bullets 1560, I cannot find any so I will replace them with Hornady 243 100 gr. sp boatails. My question is has any one done the swap and what kind of results have you had?

I use the 1560 so I would be interested in your results. No experience with the Hornady 100 gr. I have used some Hornady 87 gr VTX that I could not get to group very well.

I’ve not loaded the Sierra, but I have loaded the Hornady 103 ELDx. Hornady makes a good bullet, as do others. I did an OCW workup with H4831SC and found a good node with acceptable to me precision.

The Sierra’s are more accurate by a small amount.
The Hornady is a slightly better hunting bullet. I did once have a Hornady blow up on a “Texas heart shot”. The deer was standing looking back at me at 30yds. Bullet hit right hip. Deer ran!
Never found deer! Long blood trail. Two other deer with it that were also shot (typical bullet placement) were recovered.
I’ve had other.243 bullets do the same, so I’m not a huge .243 fan...
I do like the rifle it’s in, though (Marlin X7S).
The flat base 100gr Interlok is better than the boat-tail as a hunting bullet as it’s less likely to shed the jacket at short range. My older brother and nephew used it extensively on mule deer in Montana and other western states while brother was in the Airforce.

A closer match to the Sierra is the Speer 100gr HotCore.
I bought some recently and have a hard time telling the difference.
Except that the Speers are about half the price of the Sierra’s. If, and when, the Sierra’s are available.

I’m not a fan of the new direction that Sierra is heading in iirc they were bought a few years ago and I don’t like what I’m seeing

Dadgum
I guess I missed out on all that.
Please elaborate on what's happened.
I would hate for them to discontinue
my tried and trues the way hornady
did with a couple of others.
When I loaded 243, I spent many
hours and $$$ on components and
range time getting the load I wanted,
then winchester discontinued the
powder I finally settled on

like I said I’m trying to go off my memory here and I could be wrong but I think around ‘17 or ‘18 they were bought and that’s when the “New” stuff started coming out like the game changer bullet I love Sierra’s Stuff and seeing a load that starts with a SMK tells me it’s accurate but we will have to see what happens in the future Sierra bought Barnes Bullets as well when Remington got sold off keep that in mind folks I haven’t been able to find any of my favorite 100 grain TTSX’s .264 in 2 years but that’s for another thread

Good info about the flat base bullet. The hirnady 100 gr interlock is a pretty classic bullet in 243.
I use the 117 Interlock SP Hornady in my 25-06, and Hornady really has that combo figured out. That bullet shoots very well in multiple rifles.

I’ve killed more deer with the Hornady 100gr PtSpt (flat base) than any other bullet.
Yes! It works. Close 2nd is the 117gr BtSpt Interlock.

I bought quantities of Blems from MidwayUSA several years ago. I’ll be using them the rest of my life!

Seems like they have blems for every bullet from Hornady. Picked up 200 ftx and was looking at the 140 monoflex. I grab some of those once I get the normal loads dialed in.

With current trends I find myself seeking out and buying speer.

I have learned ( and am still learning) that
when I find something that I consider
perfectly suitable, to buy as much of
whatever that I can afford, because the
very next time, whatever you seek may
well have been discontinued and
obsoleted by today's fickle business
types that are in charge of the country's
businesses today.

I guess one logical limit would be a barrel life... for some that might be 5 or 10k rounds. Life might just be easier if you run barrel burners like 243 where life is 1-1.5k.

From what I’ve seen, the Clarus capital infusion into Sierra bullets in 2017 has enabled significant growth, as designed. They kept their senior leaders at the time to keep running the company as they had, and used the new capital access to expand into additional competitive product lines, and used this successful profit growth to allow the acquisition of Barnes to bring themselves to the forefront of monometal bullet market as well, AND they’ve sustained contract manufacturing profits to maximize utilization of their owned assets such as producing the V-Crown bullets for SigSauer’s ammunition line…

They’re a company of great folks which make great bullets, and have made some very good corporate strategy moves in the last decade to grow and sustain their brands… I don’t shoot many Sierra bullets beyond the 77 SMK, but it sure doesn’t make sense to condemn them for their investment infusion 5 years ago - they’ve been making great bullets at breakneck speed, and keeping themselves relevant in evolving consumer markets, those aren’t bad moves…

Didn’t Sierra also buy out Berger?

Berger merged with Nammo in 2016. Sierra bought Barnes out of the Remington bankruptcy.

I see Sierra, and Co. as well as Nosler pricing themselves out of business...

They’re selling out everywhere they’re offered, business is absolutely booming for those folks… pricing themselves into continuous growth and substantial profits… they might have priced themselves out of the cheapest customers, but when they’re selling the volumes they are, that’s not “pricing themselves out of business…”
