Recently traded for a 1885 Winchester Low Wall in .25-20 single shot. I have aquired plenty of brass, but I'm having trouble finding any bullets, or the right mold. Anybody know where to find .257 dia 85-87 gr bullets or a mold?
Is this an old gun marked, ".25-20" or ".25-20 Single Shot" or some such thing or, is this a new gun in an old chambering marked ".25-20" or, ".25WCF" or some other such thing? Either way its marked, first thing to do is slug the bore and make sure you really do need a .257" lead (.256" jacketed?) bullet. It also makes a difference if you're planning to load with smokeless or black powder. The lube is different, among other things.1885 Winchester Low Wall in .25-20 single shot.
GT sells a .25 for the .257 Jackrabbit that works in .25-20WCF. They're still trying to work off backlogs going on February's orders so it may be a while unless they have some on the shelf. https://www.gtbullets.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=15&products_id=66I was wrong, I got them from Missouri Bullet before this mess they used to offer them. They will again once they get caught up I bet. They were also available from badmanbullet.com. these were lead bullets. Also there were choices from Graff's about 6 years ago.
The rifle is a 1885 Winchester, but it is chambered for .25-20 Single Shot. It is NOT .25-20 WCF. I have shot it with some original .25-20 Single Shot cartridges and It shot well. Nickel sized group at 25 yards. I pulled the bullet on a couple of cartridges and weighed them at 86 gr. They mic'd .257 dia.Is this an old gun marked, ".25-20" or ".25-20 Single Shot" or some such thing or, is this a new gun in an old chambering marked ".25-20" or, ".25WCF" or some other such thing? No, but thanks. I may end up trying some heavier bullets, but I'm wanting something about 85 gr to start with since I know it shoots them well in the factory loads.I've got about 75 Rem 100 grn which I think is the proper bullet for the SS. The 86 grn is usually for the 25-20 WCF. They are PSP which I think means spire. They are pointed with a small lead tip. Is this what you are looking for?
Contact a mold maker like noe.No, but thanks. I may end up trying some heavier bullets, but I'm wanting something about 85 gr to start with since I know it shoots them well in the factory loads.
