22 or 25, as long as your carrying. In a life or death situation just pulling a firearm can dissuade your attacker. But god forbid you should have to shoot, its better than having just a shocked look in your face as previously stated. I work in a trauma OR, and can vouch for both calibers. You get shot multiple times with either caliber, your gonna get messed up.

.25acp becaue there is nothing else that small

I have not carried a .25ACP in decades. My usual REALLY SMALL CARRY GUN is a BERETTA Tomcat 3032 in .32ACP. It is as small as some of the larger .25ACP pistols and is easier to handle because of the slightly larger size.

Still, given a choice of defending myself with a .25ACP BERETTA, BROWNING or COLT at 25 feet or using my fists at 2 feet, I will go with the .25ACP anytime.
As for using a .22lr instead, I will ask you to show me a .22lr as reliable as one of the pistols mentioned above. Even the BERETTA which is made in both .22lr and .25ACP is more reliable in the ACP caliber.

Power is the same, not much, but no one wants to be shot at much less hit by a bullett. With a quality gun, I can fire into the body and then the eyes if necessary.

Much better than duking it out.

I had the good fortune to swap some emails with Joe Zambone, the originator of Magsafe, before his untimely demise. He really loved the .25 ACP platform for his product line -- something about the bullet weight to powder capacity was very conducive to generating the kind of velocity he wanted to make the round work (1,600+ fps, IIRC). In comparison, for whatever reason, he personally was not happy with what he was able to do for either the .32 ACP or .32 H&R.

His positive remarks in regard to the .25 Magsafe were for the cartridge when he was the head man. To his regret, he expressed reservations about the quality and performance of the ammo once he had sold off the company.

I have considered, the .25 seems to be outclassed by everything except a BB gun. With a .25, it seems to me that all you're getting is an additional .03" of bullet diameter compared to a .22, with slightly worse performance out of a pocket-sized gun but at a much greater cost. At the local Wally-World, a 50 round

Where did you get that info from? "Slightly worse performance" - The posts herein are in general disagreement with that.
About SV .22's and velocity:
A couple of years ago, I chrono'd both 25 ACP ammo and .22LR SV ammo from two inch barrel guns. Neither was a powerhouse. The .25 was about 10% ahead on ME.
Velocities were right at 760 fps for the 50 grain .25 ACP and just under 800 fps for the .40 grain CCI SV .22s.
Handloaded there is no comparison - still not a thumper but the .25 easily eclipses the .22. You can push the 50 grainer to 850 fps. You need to push a 40 grain bullet to 950 to match - be interesting to see penetration tests at those velocities.

My little Bernardelli. It has never FTF'd :

Better reliability than .22LR, as others have said.

Better controllablity than .380, when fired out of a really small gun. This is particularly an issue for people with hand strength issues, bad arthritis, etc.

The smallest .25's are smaller than the smallest .380's.

That is not a very long list of virtues, but it has some.
