Found a little Bauer for sale in my neck of the woods. Comes with 2 mags and 1 box of ammo. . Cute little thing. What you guys think of them? Worth while getting it @ $250.00 ?

Depends on what you want it for.

I have a couple, the young grandkids enjoy shooting them.

I used to carry one as a deep backup gun in a shirt pocket. They're about the highest quality .25 ever made, but if you're looking for a concealed carry weapon, there are much better choices available these days.

They are a well made copy of the baby Browning. The price is OK for one if you are wanting it just for the sake of having something different. Like 45_auto said, there are much better choices out there for carry, and .25 ammo is pretty spendy for plinking.

The darn thing is so cute, I think it would be a blast to shoot. From what I hear it's a collectable piece.

bio:

If you want the Bauer because you "want the Bauer", then by all means, buy it.

But please don't buy it with the intentions of using it for personal protection because the jury has long been in regarding the advantages of the puny 25acp round for self defense, and it's not good.:banghead:

There are many, many options out there in better calibers IF you are intending on doing anything with your next firearms purchase other than casual pleasure plinking..

The Ruger LCP comes to mind in 380cal., for about the same amount of money you are considering spending on the Bauer.

If you want to collect Bauers, go for it. If it were me AND I wanted to collect 25cal.pistols of any description, I'd rather collect the real thing (Baby Browning), but different strokes for different folks..

I'm not "anti" 25cal. In fact the first pistol I bought new (in 1966) was a Galesi 25cal. pistol.. Pretty little sucker, altho it never could fire a full magazine without hanging up. Back then I didn't know much about ballistics, etc. (probably don't know much more now), so I bought what I could afford at the time ($35.00 new)..

I still have it in fact.. But I don't shoot it.

So, for fun only, but the Bauer... For self defense purposes, look elsewhere..

No offense, just personal opinion.

Man that's weird!

I just put down $75 on a used Bauer .25 not 20 minutes ago! The shop was asking $150 for it, and from what I've seen that's a hell of a good price, so I put down what I could, and I will be seeing it in 2 weeks :)

It seems to be a really well made little gun, and I personally love the mechanics of teeny little guns so I am sure I will have lots of fun with it.

In terms of a carry gun? Its a little bit of a lightweight, in fact its about at the bottom of the power spectrum just barely above .22 Short. It can kill a person dead as a rock however just like any firearm, and mine may find use as a supplemental weak side carry piece, if it proves reliable.

RG:

Respectfully, a 25cal round CAN kill a person as dead as a rock, just like any other firearm. As can a 22cal short round hitting a vital area...

It's just that the "odds" are not in favor of that happening.

Self defense "experts" will tell you the 25acp round is less likely to "stop" a threat than a larger round, and with the ever increasing numbers of higher caliber choices available using a 25cal. pistol as a "supplemental weak side carry piece" just makes no sense.

Crap, even a KelTec P32 at a similar price to the used Bauer you are buying is a much better alternative...

If I'm coming off as argumentative my apology.. That is not my intention.. It's just that at 69 years old I have formed opinions about such things as the value of a 25cal. round WHEN better options are available, and it's not a good one, so I tend to mouth off about it every time it comes up.

If you think a used 25cal. pistol, even if it proves "reliable" is a good choice for your as a supplemental weak side carry piece" will do the job protecting your body to your satisfaction then, it's your body.

It wouldn't be a good choice for me.. Or my Son, or anyone I could talk out of making such a choice.

Best Wishes and again, no offense intended,

Jesse

Four points about the Bauer, and the "Baby" Browning it copied.

1. The firing pin has a long nose that also acts as an ejector. Do not dry-fire these pistols unless something (empty case, snap-cap, etc) is in the chamber or you'll break the firing pin nose. If you are buying one check and be sure a previous owner hasn't already done it.

2. When hand ejecting a loaded cartridge be very careful! As you pull back the the slide the nose of the firing pin will hit the primer.... It is best to insert an empty magazine and then gently (very gently) pull back the slide and drop the cartridge on something soft.

3. Beyond field stripping, it's a good pistol NOT to take apart.

4. When shooting one, be careful to not let the web of your thumb and trigger finger get back of the slide. Otherwise you will bleed alot. :uhoh:

PX15,

I don't disagree with anything you said at all. I find the .25 ACP to be downright underpowered, and I am especially fond of the P32 as a small pocket pistol (a friend owns one).

That said, I can foresee situations in which it could be greatly beneficial to have a small firearm quickly accessible to the weak hand in addition to a main sidearm.

I personally don't own a P32 (Yet :) ), but I will soon own a Bauer, which as I stated, I am buying mainly because I really like little autos and I think its a really interesting little firearm. I don't see myself being any worse off by throwing that little pistol in my left pocket, after I seat my 5" 1911 in its IWB holster.

Does this make any sense?

I bought one many years ago and after observing the rounds just bouncing off a 1/4" piece of plywood at 10' or 15', I decided a real handgun would be a better choice. Those 25's are more likely to just piss someone off during a self defense situation. On the other hand, if your considering a light weight and small conceal carry option, Taurus makes a really reliable 22LR compact for $200 NIB.

I bought a Taurus PT22 last month...it is at Taurus right now under warranty to fix light strikes, jamming, and keyholing bullets. I would not recommend it.

As far as the 25acp, I have a Beretta 21a bobcat 25 in my pocket right now. I am under no illusions as to it's power, but I know for a fact that used properly, it will do more than "make somebody mad".

Hard to believe someone could be so naive that they didn't realise that they had bad ammo when it was bouncing off plywood at 10' !

I'm also shopping for a baby Browning for self defense. There's really nothing comparable on the market today. Everything out there is double action, which I dislike.

I have my Dad's old Quarter Inch Bauer. It sure is a pretty thing. Last week I picked up a holster and may carry it sometime... if the alternative is no gun.

I am not purchasing this for self defense. I have an LC9 and a g26 which serve that purpose. I am amazed that a lot of people discount the 22 or the 25 as a "weak" round with no stopping power.

I could not disagree more. A couple of well placed shots close range with either a 22 or a 25 can do a a lot of damage. In my opinion shot placement is more important than caliber.:D

I think every thread that involves a .25 caliber handgun no matter what purpose will involve people bashing the round.

All I will say is ammo is expensive. I just bought 50 rounds of remington FMJ 25acp at walmart. It was either $18 or $19 plus tax. 380acp ammo was cheaper.

You pay the same for 38 , 9 mm etc. Do you think the paper target knows he difference between a 25acp or a 38 ?

I would also prefer something a little bigger. Now, with that being said, I had a friend who was shot in the chest with a .25. It passed all the way through her body and only snagged a thread of her sweater on the way out. A centimeter or so to the left and it would have hit her aorta. She spent a week and a half in the hospital anyway. I wouldn't use it as self defense, but I've seen first hand what it'll do to a normal size woman. Almost ruined a beautiful boob too! She wouldn't show me her scar though.

Ps- shot at a range of between 10-15 feet

I had a Bauer since late 1970's It has never misfired or jammed . I have left it loaded for a couple years. Removed from safe and emptyed mag as fast as I could pull trigger.
I only needed to show a little 25 950 Beretta one night to a guy who had intented to take my money . Just the sight of GUN sent him running. I will carry the Bauer or one of my 25 Berettta's before I will carry the NAA 22 pistol I wasted money on . Slow in to action hard to hold and 5 slow inaccurate shots. I can hit faster and better with the Bauer or the Beretta 950. Dam sure could swap a mag quicker if needed a reload.
I never saw a 25 bounce off plywood at 10' I use plywood to hold targets and I have lots of 25 ,32, and 380 holes in it.
I belive its Brassfletcher test that got 13 to 16 inches of penertration in the Jell . Gee that meets the great FBImin of 12 inches.
I like my 45's and 9mm but I carry a 25 now and then Some times even the P-32 KelTec is to big Then the Bauer fits

Ever notice this happens in every thread on every gun forum.

Original poster: Anyone here ever make a potato gun?

Every idiot: Potato guns are horrible for concealed carry. You need at least a billion acp. If not you'll just piss off the other guy.

Original poster: I don't remember saying anything about carrying anything.

Then every idiot fights about what to carry.

Can't someone just ask about a gun and get answers about the gun?
