25 acp

I think every thread that involves a .25 caliber handgun no matter what purpose will involve people bashing the round

Ever notice this happens in every thread on every gun forum.

Original poster: Anyone here ever make a potato gun?

Every idiot: Potato guns are horrible for concealed carry. You need at least a billion acp. If not you'll just piss off the other guy.

Original poster: I don't remember saying anything about carrying anything.

Then every idiot fights about what to carry.

Can't someone just ask about a gun and get answers about the gun?

I agree, and I think it's pretty pointless, especially given that, in this case, the OP is not new to firearms (he has over 700 posts here, in fact.) It's like telling a 20-year smoker that smoking is bad for you. They know already.

Even I want a .25 pistol. Don't know why, but I do. As a carry piece, I'd have no real use for it because I already have a P32 (which is almost never carried alone; it usually rides along with a PF9.) So, why do I want one?

I am actually not the OP, and I apologize for helping to derail the thread, as its true the OP stated nothing about using the Bauer for defense or carry or really for anything in particular.

Speaking to the original question, $250 sounds high to me, though the extra mag and ammo do add some value. If you can get it for $200 or better $175, that seems like a good deal.

As I mentioned I had put money down on a used Bauer just before coming home and reading this thread. It didn't take much looking over for me to decide the gun was well worth what they were asking, and I am really excited to pick it up in a week or two!

Because they're fun. I got this old Browning a few years ago for $30.00. I had to fix it, but it's a fun little shooter. (made in 1915)

Well..

I wouldn't waste the money it would cost for a box of 25's to shoot in the old Galesi, but you've got to admit I'm sentimental about it.. I must be, I've had it now for over 45 years... :what:

I actually "gave" the old Galesi to an Aunt of mine twenty years ago.. She had nothing for personal protection, and as others have said, a 25 round is better than nothing.. We moved near her a few years ago and she gave it back to me. The original rounds were still in it that I had put in there, and the pistol was frozen up tighter than Dick's hatband. (whatever that means.).

I finally got it to working, changed out all the springs and it still won't shoot a full mag without hanging up.

But, it was worth $35.00 new, gave me a sense at the time (mistakenly) of some security and I wouldn't part with it now any more than I would depend on it for protection.

As some have pointed out the op didn't say he/she wanted the Bauer for personal protection, so offering my opinion that it would be worthless for that purpose was offering advice that had not been asked for.

So, my apologies for that..

Best Wishes,

Jesse

LOL....So true.

I say grab it if it's just another collection piece or even BUG and if you have some extra cash (I know I'm about tapped out with Christmas/Taxes...:(). I will be shooting my PT-25 tomorrow (love the Holiday Vacation!) along with a few other guns and I will be using some Winchester .25ACP's that I've had on hand for several years. I will not, however, be buying any new .25 ammo due to the absolute exorbitant costs. I am one of 'those' people who enjoy shooting mouse guns so I wish .25ACP were indeed cheaper. In the meantime, I can shoot the heck out of my Beretta Bobcat 21A in .22lr.

My wife really enjoys shooting our old Browning, but with ammo costs for .25 being what they are, I bought a used Beretta 21A in .22LR. Problem solved.

I think that due to it's small size, that it would be pretty difficult to work with also.

I have a little Colt 1908 .25 vest gun. As far as I know, the only thing that is not stock are the grips that were on it. I had some made that almost match my 1911 custom grips, just for fun.

Mine fires any ammo, as long as it is FMJ's, shoots pretty accurate at 10' or so, and is a lot of fun to shoot. I usually shoot the 9mm, the .45, maybe a shotgun or AR, then break out the .25, just for fun.

The Colt version is a neat, well made little gun. If you have the cash, and like the little gun, get it. All guns need a good home. :)

PX15, as I recall you shared the story once of how you ended up buying that gun and I recall it involved someone with a knife at a bar? Could you retell that tale?

Most 25 are jamomatics. Bauer and baby Brownings are one of the better quality jamomatics. Too weak and unreliable for protection kind of unsafe to carry with on in the chamber.

I am not a big fan of .25 pistols. However I have gone through several Colt Vest Pocket Models, Baby Browning’s and one Bauer - which I still own. None of them jammed, at least with ball ammo, and I never shot anything else.

I know of three stories involving friends. In one, a GI in Europe during World War Two shot and killed a German using a previously captured Mauser. The incident happened while he was clearing a house.

In another a U.S. military investigator was working undercover in Saigon during the Viet Nam war. He picked up a tail, and so walked down an alley. The tail followed but didn't come out the other end.

The last involved a meek little guy sitting on a bar stool minding his own business. A well-lubricated bully came up and for no reason offered to turn his victim into ground meat. The potential victim pulled out a Browning, held it up to the big guys eyeball, and pulled the trigger. The bully went down for the count. No charges were filed.

So far as buying one of these little guns for plinking, remember most of the smaller ones have next-to-impossible-to-see sights. I consider them to be good for point-blank point shooting, and not much more.

As a personal protection weapon they work under conditions where nothing bigger can be carried for various reasons, and while the bullet may be little most folks don't want to risk being shot with anything. When something bigger can be used it's advisable to do so.

Biogenic go for it. I just recently bought an Astra Cub (Colt Jr in wolf's clothes) for the grin it gives me. Why 25? Just because. Same thoughts you have. Very glad I got it. I wish they were still made. Not looking to go bear hunting.

Right on the money Cokeman.

Can someone start a sticky called "that caliber is not worth junk" Whenever someone starts derailing a topic we can just redirect to that sticky.

My club has a bowling pin silouette stand with 3/4 sized pins about 10 or 12 feet out.
When I got my Beretta 21a Bobcat in 25acp, I found I could easily hit the very top round portion of the pins and knock them down. The little Beretta is a shooter, and with the 9rd Mec Gar magazine, it holds 10rds. Been reliable, too.

They are safe to carry with one in the chamber. Don't forget the Colt 1908 too, my mom's has been flawless.

I would not trust them to carry one in the chamber as a jolt could cause it to jump the sear. I've heard of it happening. They are actually better built than the Brownings. Enjoy.

What pistol are you referring to?

Cocked and Locked, I am not going to get into the caliber discussion, but that is one nice looking 1908!

Those are fun little guns to shoot/own. :)

Had to revive this thread to post pics of my Bauer which I just picked up this afternoon.

It is TINY compared to my 1911!

Its also a rock solid little gun, with almost 100% stainless steel construction. Having taken the slide off, I can understand why some feel uncomfortable carrying such a gun cocked and locked. It really seems to be just barely holding on to that striker! Time will tell if I decide to carry it at all, let alone with one in the pipe.

I plan to have a nice set of wood grips ready for it by next week, and il go ahead and make a new thread when that is finished.

P.S Yes both guns are cocked. Neither are chambered. Please save the safety speeches.
