Is 250 a good price for a NIB Walther P22? Its solid black with the 3.4 in barrel and come with 2 ten round magazines.

Well, it's slide is made of the same stuff pennies are made of, zinc. Hmm, 250 pennies probably has more zinc by weight than those slides. 2500 pennies has a lot more potmetal than a P22. :D

Crap this is frustrating. The gun sold already. I check the classifieds every day for good deals, but whenever one is posted it sells usually within an hour:( I really wanted that gun!

Yeah I dont plan on putting more than a few hundred down the barrel each month, plus my concealed is a walther pps, so I think that the p22 would be a good gun to hone my skills on for cheaper than feeding the pps. For 250 Im not expecting perfection in materials.

have one....love it... and yes... 250 was a good price... local shop has them for 325 new.

I have been watching the online classifieds all day, 2 have shown up and both had a pending sale that ended up going threw with in the first 30min online.

I paid $250 for my P22. Fun little gun-if you take it apart and do some polishing and smoothing. I wouldn't pay any more than $250 for a P22. My one regret is that a stainless Single Six was going for the same price. I'd have been happier with the SS.

I bought one about 2 years ago (i think) from Sportsmans Warehouse for $250. I sold it on gun broker for over $300. I have not seen one for sale for $250 since then. Its an awesome gun for the price. I hear the barrel extension has causes the slide to crack sometimes though so I would stay away from that.

Lots of fans of this little gun would be pleased to pay $250 for a P22; the price is quite good, all else being equal.

The real decision is whether you want to spend that amount of money, or any amount of money, for a gun that is made primarily of pot metal. Lots of other, better, choices are out there that you might want to consider first.

crapmetal
People with age-related macular degeneration wouldn't have treatment if not for zinc. Next time, think before insulting something you take for granted. Your eyes might thank you sometime down the road.

$250 is a good price, as I've seen them around $389 lately.

I (meaning my wife) has one, along with a P99. The trigger is horrendous, but it's a cool little gun and it's fun to shoot.

Remember - not every gun in your arsenal has to be your go-to SD piece. Some you can just buy cause they look neat.

Plus, it's a Walther, so regardless of what a few amateur metallurgists think, it will retain it's value quite well.

Hate to point it out, but the P22 is a Umarex gun, not a Walther (despite carrying the Walther banner). Umarex is the air soft company that bought Walther out in the '90s and serves as the parent company these days. Sad to say, the P22 has far more in common with an air soft pistol than it does with, say, the P99, which is in fact a real Walther.

yup.. the P22 pure S**T, the PPS-crap, the PK380-crap, the P99-absolute crap..SP22--- USDA certified CRAP, new PPK's- Old Crap...oh and the G22... pile of dog crap, you should send them all to me rather than put yourself through the disappointment of thousands of trouble free amazingly fun and entertaining rounds...:D

not a Walther (despite carrying the Walther banner). Umarex is the air soft company that bought Walther out in the '90s and serves as the parent company these days.

so... a P22 isnt a real walther but a NEW P99 is a walther? thanks for clearing that up for me...

I like my P22. It isn't a target pistol and only shoots CCI Mini-Mags reliably, but I can live with those two disabilities. I even carry it concealed now and again. Just because the slide is made of a zinc compound dosen't mean that it is crap in and of itself. Then again I'm not a metallurgist.

Hmm, so maybe guns should be made of lithium. It's a metal used for people who suffer from mental disease. Let's think about that.

Most of us wouldn't want a gun made of lithium. It is even softer than zinc.

Of course zinc has usefulness, galvanizing is zinc. Paper has usefulness, as do a lot of other materials I wouldn't use in making a handgun.

Plus, it's a Walther, so regardless of what a few amateur metallurgists think, it will retain it's value quite well.

Sir, I'm not a metallurgist, but I do know metals having been in the metals trades all my life.

I'm sure that 50 years from now the P22 will be remembered as an embarrassment for Walther, whether they admit it or not.

Sometimes I just want to give up. People will vote for someone like Mr. Obama, and they will pay too much for cheap guns that are stamped with expensive names. People got angry at me when I said Mr. Obama was not presidential material too. (But let's think about that) :D

What do you guys think a P22 is a combat proven assault pistol? No its a 22 cal plinker pistol and for plinking it is great. The mags have built in speed loaders and the gun has adjustable backstraps. For plinking it is great and i paid 250 for mine with 3 mags and an Olive Drab finish. What do you think i'm gonna do with my P22 use it for conceal carry? True it has a fixed barrel and feels like a toy but it puts 22s down range without stovepiping, I think that is pretty good in itself. Heck my state minimium caliber for CC is 32 ACP!

My Advice

Buy something else. Even though $250 is a lower than average price, it is still not a good one.

I bought one for the wife not to long ago, for the first 300-400 rounds it was a pretty good shooter, after that it began a steady fall. I shot around 500 rounds through it in a day and that basically killed it. Every since then it has some type of problem at least 8 out of every 10 shots. Yes I have cleaned it until it was cleaner than the day I bought it and still failure after failure. You can find a good .22 automatic for 250-300 and have something FAR superior to the P22.

Back to the question at hand, I think the one I bought was around $375. with the laser she "had to have" that said, I wouldn't pay $2.50 for it now.

I personally would look at the Ruger Mark 3 or something similar. Buy a P22 if you really want to, but don't be surprised if you have a 50% failure rate after 1,000 rounds. And believe it or not I'm not normally a critical person.

several thousand rounds with no issues through mine.. some prefer the higher speed ammo.. thunderbolts or CCI mini mags or stingers work flawlessly through mine.

so... a P22 isnt a real walther but a NEW P99 is a walther? thanks for clearing that up for me...

PT1911. You are welcome. Forewarned is forearmed, as they say. And while you may scoff, the fact of the matter is that the P22 is a Umarex creation; it is not a Walther in the same fashion that a P99 or a PPS is a Walther, as has been reported here and elsewhere many times (check out the Walther Forums board for confirmation). As to the pending PK380, it's too soon to tell whether that one will be a Umarex gun or a Walther. At least it has a steel slide, although the external screw that fastens the safety is not a good sign.

I had one for a couple of years. Fun little gun to shoot- I enjoyed it for awhile and everyone at the range loved to look at it. I never considered it as anything approaching defense gun. As with many .22 autos there were there were too many malfunctions.
It is a fun little plinker, but mine went off in a trade and I don't miss it. My old Buckmark is not quite as cute, but it hardly ever fails
