$250 for Walther P22?

I have no personal experience with the Walther P-22, but I have a friend in the Cincinnati area who swears by his. He absolutely loves it and has every gadget he can get strapped to it for the fun of it.

I've had two Rugers: a MkII, a MkIII, and I'm on my second P22. The MkII was really nice looking, but wasn't really all that accurate, having the little short tapered barrel. And it was a royal pain to clean. In fact, I was never able to remove the barrel from the frame for a proper field strip cleaning. Needless to say, I got rid of it.

My MkIII was an awesome shooter. It was the Comp. target model with the long slab-sided barrel. However, my wife couldn't shoot it due to it's weight. It is a fairly heavy gun for a .22. So, back we went to the Walther P22. Its light weight is perfect for her. She has Carpal Tunnel and even shooting the little P22 for more than two or three magazines worth aggravates her CT problems.

The P22 is a nice little gun if used with CCI Mini Mags and/or Stingers. You just need to understand it's limitations. It won't keep up with a MkIII Comp. Target model, but it can still ward off most attackers in a life threatening situation. Hey, it's better than nothing. And for $250? That's a real good price, especially if it is brand new.

Oh, my first P22? It irritated me so I got rid of it. :scrutiny:

Well the more I think about it I might just bag getting a walther or sig 22. I'm entering the police academy next spring so maybe I'll just save for a few more months any get my glock 22 for the academy and purchase a 22 conversion for it.

that is a really good price. we have them here for $350-400 new. i was thinking about getting one but i need it to be 5.5" barrel.

but i need it to be 5.5" barrel.
Why?
I can tell you from experience, it doesn't add much to the package.
Added hassle for field-strip, not enough recoil to require the weight, add-on bit moves around during shooting (throws off your front sight).

for hunting purposes. i had to get a custom 6" barrel for my glock 22 to make it legal. the min. length is 5.5" measured from muzzle to firing pin.

Where do you guys get it from worth $250? I paid mine $450 with lasers. I love mine and it is around800 rounds and still flawless. I would want to get another one if you guys will tell me where is that $250. :)

for hunting purposes.
Interesting, do you intend to actually hunt with it, or is the intention to call it a "hunting firearm"?
I can't imagine hunting accuracy out of ours, is all. Even benched it shoots 8" groups at 10 yards.

We're fairly sure it isn't all operator error, since with other .22 pistols (shooting from a bench) we shoot 2" groups at that distance. I have a portable small vise on the way, I may test the P22 out in it to get a feel for the gun's inherent accuracy.

i want the PK380, if it comes in Blaugrau.. the Blue/Grey frame..

the P22 is supposed to be a trainer for the P99.. there really have been quite a few issues with it, but S&W are really good about repairs/replacement..

if they would just pick a different alloy (a mild steel MIM would be better) and actually do the things that are in the P22 Bible from the factory, instead of putting it on the consumer to do..

and there are many different Zamak alloys.. for 350+ there really isn't a good reason for it to be made of Zamak, other than full-on profits.. i bet for less than 20 bucks of manufacturing costs, it could be made of a MIM steel.. and for 10 bucks more, everything in the P22 Bible could be addressed..
