Want to load some 25acp and I want to start with 1.3gr of 231 and end at about 1.5. .Anyone else have a good recipe that they like ? Got bullseye, clays, uninque, titegroup, 231 on the bench.

I have never tried reloading .25 ACP.
My fingers aren't small enough.

Lyman #49 says 1.4 Bullseye / 50 grain Hornady FMJ is potentially most accurate.

But Hornady has discontinued the .25 ACP bullet line.

So I don't know where to get bullets.

I load my 25 ACP with AA #2, very fine ball type powder that will meter 1.5gr accurately out of my powder measure, 231 would not.

I also have data from Ramshot for their ball powders, Competition, Zip and True Blue, but I haven't tried them yet.

I am getting 1.5 on the dot with 231 using my old trusted Lyman 55 ;) For some reason some of my bullets are going in a little crooked

I think the most common load is 1.3 gr Bullseye, 50 gr FMJ
That penetrates 250 pages in the phone book.

If I work up from there to 3.2 gr, it penetrates 770 pages, but is still wimpy.
I cannot go any higher, as the case is full of powder.

If I switch to Power Pistol [a denser powder] it is ok up to 5.5 gr but at 6 gr sometimes the primer falls out.
With 4 gr Power Pistol, the recoil is about as bad as most people can stand it for one or two shots. I have shot 5.5 gr again and again just to show I can take the pain and noise.

I also worked up loads with AA#5, HS-6, and 800X, in addition to Bullseye and Power Pistol.

Power Pistol is still the best.

I get the same results in a Colt or a Beretta, but the Vesta 25acp has a sloppy firing pin fit, and will pierce primers between 2 and 2.75 gr Bullseye. That is a worthless pistol compared to the Colt 1908 and Beretta 950

My fingers hurt...

Here is a sample of my 25 auto loads.. I think my wife will have a blast with the bauer :D
I've been told #3 lead shot is the right size.

Just something to think about.

I'll try them next...

I could, and keep the bullet stable, if Redman kept making 25acp barrel liners.

As it is, I might have to use an Aluminum .25" ID tube.

I have done rifled barrel liner extensions on a couple 22s, but I had to do a tube extension on a 50 cal.

Clark, do you have a blog or something?
If I had a blog, no one would read it.

He needs a youtube channel..
I have 138 Youtube uploads. That is good for mechanical stuff, but charts of reloading numbers would not do well there.

I have a video "Leupold Zero Point modification" that is 1/2 hour long, and another engineer tells me it helped him fall asleep in a hotel room, when he was on travel. [It is even boring for other engineers.]

But the couple hours I have invested in 25acp experiments boils down to the couple hundred words I posted above here on THR. You read it in less that a minute.

THR is maximum impact and maximum exposure for the little I learned about 25acp.

whats your handle on that ?

Why try to hot-rod a round like the .25ACP?

I think a better question is: 'why not?'

35-50 grain projectiles moving at seven-something hundred FPS leaves just a little bit of room for improvement, doesn't it?

Funny thing, I just got rid of a Beretta 950 (but .22 short version); I'm really fond of my FN 1906. Actually have dies for .25ACP, but haven't loaded any yet. One of the questions I had was how much over the 'recommended' load my pistol would be able to handle over the long haul.

Since I'm fairly new to all this, I'd rather err on the side of caution, than on the side of catching a handgun slide in what's left of my front teeth. :D
