Fwiw, it was nib in spring 2019. I keep a piece of each used cardboard ammo 'box' and divide them into multiples of 10 for easier counting of the total consumption. The rifle was manufactured inside the Czech Republic.
Don't be fooled, this was the Czech's alternative to the AKM, and despite the general appearance, internally is a totally different gun.
VZ-58 has striker mechanism, short-stroke piston, dual-spring operation for bolt carrier and striker functions. Some different photos (I can't find) show us the separate striker, bolt and carrier.
No Parts are interchangeable with AKMs. Some people find this difficult to accept.
My HK/PTR-91 mags won't interchange with my FAL rifle's mags....why not?
One safety note about the VZ - never forget to put the small, separate locking piece (Not depicted here) back onto the bolt after field stripping. ---Only ---This separate piece, less than 2" length, keeps the bolt in battery when firing !
After reassembly, it is quite visible from the empty magwell, and the very small silver locking sections visibly move when the bolt slides in its tracks.
The Czech vz. 58 -- Improving Upon the Most Reliable Combat Rifle in the World (gunsamerica.com) The author was an Army helicopter pilot, Hey, Loach, Chinook, who later went to medical school, works in an urgent care clinic near Oxford MS.
Note totally different AKM design, hammer-fired with rotating bolt, long-stroke, "one-piece" piston/bolt carrier etc.
