Bummed that they did it.... glad as hell they are gonna burn.

I feel bad for the mass-punishment, bureaucratic wrath that will be coming the way of above-board Soldiers behind this now.

Interesting how deftly they ignore noting the Soldiers' organization.

I sure hope they had nothing to do with 5th Group at all.

This will also sadly play to the notion that Chicago would be a wondrous place of sausages&flowers if only other locales would follow Chicago's template for firearms ownership and purchasing.

Of course, then too, as this could have sort of used Fast&Furious as a template, perhaps the outcome was expected for the effect sure to follow.

91 guns from multiple dealers in two different states. And that is just the ones they know about.........................

Don Babwin, "Latest deadly shooting adds to spate of Chicago homicides",Associated Press, 26 Mar 2021.
One dead, seven wounded left in fair to critical conditions.

POINTS TO REMEMBER
Don't buy for the other guy.
Buying with intent to turn around and sell is "dealing in firearms without a license" especially if you develop a "street rep" of being a "go to guy for guns no questions asked".

That's a lot of guns.

Imagine if they charged them as accessories in all of the shooting and homicides.

And since they bought those guns from licensed dealers they had their names attached to each and every serial number of the guns they bought and gave to the gang-bangers in Chicago. Just waiting to be found in the inevitable ATF traces. Didn't think that through, did they?

Maybe the bangers were supposed to grind the serials off and didn't. These sound like dumb men....

Chicago has the same rules for firearms purchase and ownership as the rest of the state. And it is nowhere near as bad as people from outside of the state believe. People lump Chicago gun restrictions in with places like NYC. It just is not that way.

Some members of the Army (and the forces in general) these days aren’t exactly the “best and brightest” of yesteryear. To many, it’s just another job and they simply are bad apples who joined the service to stay off the streets but the indoctrination was either lackluster or didn’t take hold in the individuals at hand.

It’s a nice sentiment but hardly everyone in the service should be labeled a “hero” as is so often the case. Such a recklessly overused word.

What can one say about the days of conscription versus all volunteer . . . the truth is that there are people that do criminal acts no matter what their job or profession is.

Interesting to note. I was under the impression by a couple folk that live there that the municipality had considerable sway over open purchasing of firearms in general and handguns in particular.

I often hear Chicago-based activists and politicians blaming their gun-related crime on lax laws elsewhere.

That's very much what I was thinking. The other side that I've personally heard so much is the *boating accident* defense for the lack of possession and the *private sale* defense for the firearms showing up in another's hands or in a crime.

In any case, these tools well & truly passed the *commerce* stipulations in firearms interactions and no excuses are going to save them.

Truly said.

There is exactly ZERO difference between the inherent morals and ethics of the modern Service Member than there has ever been.

Society has changed - as it ALWAYS does - but the human within is still the same old human as has always walked upright.

Or, in other words, the system works, but you can't fix stupid.

Isn't that the big *take* from this.... or should be?

Tragedy of the deaths aside - the system DID work. The system is not necessarily there to avoid tragedy but rather - when a free individual goes bad-actor, hold that person rather than society as a whole accountable.

Todd.

Society is breaking down, that’s for sure.

What do you expect when “thug culture” is glorified in excess? Today’s heroes of the youth are gangster rappers and conceited fools on electronic media. Sad it drips over into out servicemen.
Where do you think half of the enlistees come from?

Any barrel that big is going to have three bad apples. There are always going to be people who do bad things for money.

There were Soviet spies in the Manhattan Project, arguably the most secure and exclusive TAD in military history.

Gang members joining the military for purposes to benefit their gang, or military members joining a gang after enlistment, with criminal activity "cross pollinating" isn't a new phenomenon. Involvement in criminality in general has been increasing as of late within the military. Theft of government property (to include weapons, munitions, night vision), funds, drug smuggling, human trafficking, and even murder and sex crimes have been increasing as of late. Not to mention espionage related cases.
Some genius in week 3 of basic carjacked a school bus full of kids outside Ft Jackson last week- with a stolen (and empty) army issued weapon. Many reasons have been given pontificating on why our service members have been behaving so badly, but at the end of the day, they are all adults making really bad decisions. In the face of all of this, I find it puzzling that leadership at the highest levels have put such a high priority on monitoring the political leanings and social media habits of our service members (and Veterans) in the name of "mitigating extremism in the ranks", while clearly self-inflicting wounds by weaponizing PC culture and other measures guaranteed to lower morale and erode discipline. This shows a lack of insight into what is going on within the ranks, and a complete failure in priorities for the overall welfare and readiness of the force as a whole.

Hmm I wonder if this has any relation to what I heard from a recruiter recently? He basically said the military is over looking some convictions for drug offenses to boost recruitment numbers.

Some correction could might be achieved by allowing summary execution for major crimes under the UCMJ.
