At a local 3 gun match on Saturday I ran into a situation where I wish I had a full choke, but also needed to shoot slugs on the same stage. Is there any concern/safety issue with a full choke and slugs?

I understand that accuracy/poi May change
I may need to start swapping chokes each stage, or just run a full all the time
Thanks

You can shoot Fortser "rifled" slugs through a full choke barrel, they'll swage down. But, you'll probably get more leading and your accuracy will probably suck.

Thanks, I assume accuracy will change and more leading makes sense, my main goal is to not hurt myself or others, 2nd goal is to not hurt my gunS
3rd goal, get hits on targets quickly

As Chuck R. said foster slugs will safety go through a full choke. That said I have been shooting slugs through an Improved Modified choke in my three gun shotgun. I was surprised how good accuracy was with reduced recoil slugs, good enough I don't switch to an more open choke for slugs any more. And with Remington 1 oz reduced recoil Sluggers I have had very little if any leading issues even with the tighter choke. Unless your gun needs the full power slugs to cycle reliably give the reduced recoil slugs a try. All three (Rem, Federal, Win) major manufacture offer them.

I have some fiocci slugs, 7/8 oz and they do pretty well and don’t kick too hard/raise the muzzle too bad, when I run out of them I may look at some reduced recoil slugs. Thanks

Check with the manufacturer (gun or choke, if not the same) about slugs and full choke.

I have never needed full choke at a 3gun match, but I do not get put as much as I used to, so things may have changed. I keep some high brass bird shot for longer shots.

For me, Fiocchi Aero slugs, 1 oz@1150 fps shoot tighter groups than Fiocchi 7/8 oz@1300. Both of those are low recoil. YMMV.

it may be that I need to branch out and get some higher power bird shot. it was a spinning target and it barely moved on the first two shots. I am working on putting the video together from the match and I will share it to see if you all have suggestions.

it took 8 shots to get the spinner over, and I didn't kill my own momentum and interrupt the swing, it just didn't want to move. The folks who had better luck used a pheasant load
