Have had a 3 inch 36 since 85,...have pocketed it,....a bit long for me in my pants pocket,..but it's stuck in my work jacket pocket quite often,..wife has laid claim to it as her woods walking favorite. Nice shooter,..I like that extra inch of sight plain. I carried it IWB for a lot of years. Would love to find one like yours at a good price. It'd probably follow me home. Dog gone it,..now ya got me drooling again!

A steel J-Frame is right at 25 - 26 oz loaded, and add the pocket holster you got nearly 1 3/4 pounds.

Thats a lot of weight flopping around in your pants pocket.

An alloy J is pockatable, but I find a steel frame tiresome unless carried on a belt.

I'll third thunder173's and rcmodel's observations. My 60-3" is one of my favorite j-frames, but I have a OWB holster for it. I have jeans (Duluth Trading) with deep front pockets--and it really doesn't work in even them. In cargo-pants pockets, it'd just be a floppy delight.

I pocket carry a 642 and a 60 (2 1/4" .357). The 60 weighs more, but it's really not a problem around town where I'm not walking for miles. For hiking, I'll carry it IWB or in a belt holster instead.

A 3" might be too long, unless you have deep pockets.

Timing must be everything!

I had a Smith 60 Pro Series on order at my LGS and went in yesterday to check on the status. My friend behind the counter said that mine had not come in yet, but he had just taken in a used 60-4. He swore it had only five rounds through it and for the life of me I cannot really see any evidence of it being fired any more. It was still in the cardboard box and by the SCOSW it looks like it was manufactured in 1990. I noticed it had no ILS, and though it is .38 Special only, if I need .357 I'll use the 686 or 627. I am sure it will make a good nightstand weapon. I can hardly wait to get it out to the range.

My first carry gun was a steel 640-1,) first year they made the "j" a magnum). It was ok for occasional, short term pocket carry, but I found it too heavy to pocket carry all day. (Thanks for reminding me, it's still the one gun I traded or sold that I'd most like to have back!)

I would think the weight combined with the longer barrel would make it even less ideal for pocket carry, although it looks like an awesome belt gun!
