3 New Primer factory being built

Interesting point re stockholders but with a different result I hadn’t thought of before—any expenditure of significance by a publicly traded company must be reported to the stockholders via the quarterly reports to the SEC. A CAPEX investment cannot be hidden in any practical sense and certainly not in a legal one.
mabey these are private companies who are built the holly primer factories??? PSA? Hornady? Black Hill? Uncle Ikea?

Don’t know man! Remington is coming back online soon. I’m pretty sure they make primers too
Problem is...Remington made a post on YouTube about ammo shortage and mentioned the primer shortage as well. The CEO stated as far as Remington is concerned, ALL primers they produced will NOT be distributed!! Only being reserved for inhouse loading in the Remington brand!

Speaking on the topic of primers...is anyone familiar with: Servicios aventuras (Tipo) primers out of Central Mexico?? Only thing I can find out is the "cup" is made of brass and they are "boxer". Need some input as to reliability.

Okay, I just looked at (more than skimmed, but less than studied) several of Vista’s most recent 10-Q filings with the SEC. Don’t believe me? Here’s the link https://investors.vistaoutdoor.com/sec-filings/default.aspx

Anyway, not one mention, hint, nor veiled threat they are building, planning to build, buy, or expand any facility to produce more primers or ammo.

They did discuss at some length the $81M Remington deal and it’s already increased profits to the Shooting Sports division. About $15M in last quarter I believe.

So, if Vista isn’t building a factory, then maybe it’s Olin (Winchester’s parent). I’ll check them if I can clear my mind of all the accounting gibberish. Or maybe it’s a smaller player but who has the wherewithal to take that risk?

I think Vista controls the USA primer market. I’m thinking Hornady or Sig or the others.

If Grisham has known for 3-5 weeks that 3 “majors” are building primer factories, wouldn’t he also know which 3 majors? I hope he’s right, but if he hasn’t named them by now, I’m skeptical. He wouldn’t be the first in our community to repeat hopeful rumors.

There’s probably a couple companies looking into building new primer production facilities. Most companies will keep stuff like that under wrap until the board of directors gives the go ahead, land is acquired and initial building plans have been approved. The shareholders won’t get notice until the plans have been made public. A lot of times plans like this get shot down at some step in the process.

I doubt it’d be vista. They already have CCI, Federal and now Remington. Hornady and Sig seem like likely candidates. Hornady has been expanding their cartridge sales quite a bit I the last few years.

No worries here I can easily wait it out for another political cycle before I have to scale back my usage. Still working on primers that I paid $12 per K for. Got laughed at for spending a couple Christmas Bonuses on primers but I'm laughing now.:D It's all good though.
Nobody is laughing, not a single person on planet Earth

Some planning sure but in a publicly traded company capital expenditures (including land acquisition) don’t go forward on the sly.

Again I'll say, without naming names it's just another internet rumor. Unless Grisham is on the 3 primer companies' boards of directors and is leaking inside information, I'm skeptical. ymmv

Well, When the news comes out. I’ll give you a respectful “I told you so”

They most definitely do. It happens everyday of the week. I work right next to a fixed asset accountant in a publicly traded company. You think McDonalds releases an 8-K every time they buy land?

I’ve been involved in a number of deals where 8-k’s were eventually released. My work falls in the middle of the process. That means the project has been under consideration for months before I know about it and for months after I stop working on it. Most of the time the deal falls through and the public will never know what might have happened. Usually before a big deal is finalized rumors start swirling. It’s hard to get financing in place, legal services rendered, various consultants involved without someone spilling the beans. All that will happen before the “public” is made aware.

I am loading primers that I bought in 2019 with a Winchester rebate.
Everybody knows it is a boom and bust industry, I wouldn't build a primer plant for retail sale.
I might for factory ammo if I were Hornady or Sig and wanted to cut the strings to a supplier.
