Hey guys, ive got some extreme plated 150 grain flat points that they say not to push past 1600 fps.

Ive also got a pound of 4198 powder

Whats a good starting load for the 30-30 win?

I do have a chronograph

I would use Unique or Blue Dot. there is data out there for cast bullets.
2400 maybe another option?

This really ticks me off, if you can't push these over 1600fps why don't they offer a 170-190gr plated bullet

I use 19 grains of IMR4198. And just barely crimp it with a Lee crimp die.
Shoots great, low noise and recoil.

Lyman Cast Handbook has plenty of data for a 150gr lead bullet. Using IMR4198 the starting charge is listed as 17.7gr with a velocity of 1,593 fps. Max charge is 25.3gr for a velocity of 2,166 fps and pressures of 35,600 CUP. Data tested in a 20" universal receiver.
