30-30 bullet question

my mom hunted with my dad when he was liveing carrying a Marlin 30-30. she had a tree stand built in a forked oak that was in a grove of oaks - acorns were thick there.
her favorite aiming spot was the neck/skull juncture or neck/shoulder juncture. she took over a dozen whitetails - one shot each.
my dad had a Model 70 in '06 he used for his stand at the ridge top.
myself I've taken near as many deer with a .22LR than my other guns which include a .50cal percussion muzzler, 12ga mag (I use for 'jeep track hunting' walking along slowly) and a Ruger Mini30 I shoot handloads with Speer 150gr softpoints. the Ruger is basically a 30-30 equal and one shot is all it's ever taken.
I love country style steak and gravy made with venison, mashed 'taters and fried okra.

No, you can hunt deer with it, if you want them to run off and be put down by some one shooting a 30-06. Experence counts, seen it many times. Deer hit well with the old 30-30, they run off like nothing touched them.

Well I really cannot relate to your "experience", or the "experience" of those "seen by you many times", but seems to me the "lack of experience" is what leads to more deer getting away than the other way around. I can say however, that I have tracked more lost deer shot with higher energy, higher velocity, rounds than ones shot with a 30-30, and in most cases the tracking was initiated by the use of a 30-06.

Myself and the folks I hunt with, use revolvers, bows, single shot handguns, and rifles of various calibers. The one thing they all have in common is the person behind them has to do their part, otherwise we might as well throw rocks. To honestly think, as has been mentioned, that simply based upon your own personal belief, or "experience", that a 30-30 is inadequate definitively shows your knowledge on the matter.

I personally hunt deer this way. I sit down behind a big rock, then jump on the deers' back when they walk past and beat it with a club! HAHAHA I just had to chirp!

Someone asked if the Hornady LeveRevolution poly-tipped sharp-pointed bullets, so popular for .30-30's, would be sold for hand-loaders. You can order them from Midway.:)

One of my favorite cast bullets for .30-30, .30-06, and .308 Win 100-yd shooting is Lyman #311291, 170-gr round nose sized to .308, gas check, loaded to 2,200 fps. It was originally developed for the .30-30. Very accurate...the front half rides on the lands, the rear half takes the rifling. Unsized it is excellent for .303 British and 7.7 Jap. A box of 20 cartridges costs me $3.34!:p

I haven't seen it mentioned on this thread but MOST manufactures of components label the .30-30 bullets a such ".30-30".
This is because the said bullets, while still .30 calibre, were designed to properly expand with the reduced velocities of the .30-30 cartridge.
My grandson has had great success on the local whitetail population shooting 170 Hornadys in his Marlin.

as matter of fact I just now put a belly-full of aforementioned meal down my gullet but unfortunate I can't recollect which firearm I for sure took it with.
I think likely 12ga Mag last winter on jeep road of the 2 I took.

Enough now

This thread is pretty well worn out. As long as individuals are making logical statements, or relating personal experience, I'm content to let a topic run. When things get 'way off topic, and when the trolls creep out from beneath the bridge, it's time to quit.
