I don't know anyone first-hand who's put it thru ballistic gelatin or used it to hunt, but I'd imagine that it's better for social or hunting work than their HP/FMJ stuff. It's also not terribly accurate.

You might want to keep some around for social work but try a few other brands of SP ammo for hunting use.
 
The last time I used 7.62x39mm for deer, the round was PMC 125 grain Powerpoint. First shot brought the deer down dead in his tracks at 75 yards... But the second round hung up on the edge of the chamber, causing me to lose a chance at a doe that was standing nearby. Be sure to test the loads you intend to use in the rifle beforehand.
 
Cor-Bon loads some very nice 150-gr JSPs.

I don't suggest their 125-gr JHPs as they will not penetrate enough for even small deer.

But it's really good stuff.
