Indeed David, I do advocate "gun control for cops". But I said nothing about nightsticks, Mace or Tasers. Since when did you decide it is necessary (or even legal) to shoot someone for rape?

No surprise that you (as a self-proclaimed "rabid prosecutor") rush to raise the worn-out boogeyman of the "rape in progress", as if people always phone the cops while they are being raped. That's very typical of the paranoia-peddlars in prosecutors' offices everywhere.

Even if you live in Atlanta I'd bet dollars to donuts (no pun intended) that not a single one of your municipal cops has ever stopped a "rape in progress".

Fact is, police don't prevent rapes at all. All the police ever do is investigate rapes that have already happened... meaning someone has already become a victim. Prevention of rape is up to the potential victim or bystanders and THAT is one heck of a good reason for citizens to be armed.

No Sale, Mr. Prosecutor.

Both! I carry a Ranger 94 youth , with an AO sight and 150 grain ammo AND an 870 18" with Factory folder and a light attached. AND a .22 pistol.

No Sale, Mr. Prosecutor.

I prosecuted in Atlanta for several years. The cops there regularly responded to robberies in progress...murders in progress...multiple crimes in progress.
If you think for a minute that nightsticks, tasers, and mace are as good as firearms, then sell all your guns and depend upon those less lethal options for yourself.
Cops have to go into some of the worst areas of the world everyday, where the criminals are armed to the teeth. Any call could be the call in which they have to use their firearm. Just like you never know when you will have to use yours. Honestly, I can't believe someone at THR actually said cops should not carry guns. How would you feel if you called 911 when you found an armed burglar in your home, and you knew the cop would first have to find a judge to sign a warrant (maybe he would sign it, maybe he wouldn't) before he would let the cop carry a gun to your house.
Seriously, think about what you are saying.

Wow- this thread seems to have taken on a whole new direction!! I think I'll go with the 12 gauge pump and just add a few slugs to the side saddle. Now I just have to get a short fore-end for it so the side saddle fits.

Hi Cooke...

We are clearly off the topic of the OP so, if you wish to continue this line of discourse we need to do it via PM. Feel free to do so.

But to answer your question... "How would you feel if you called 911 when you found an armed burglar in your home, and you knew the cop would first have to ..."

I do not need an after-the-fact investigator (policeperson) to be armed with anything but their pencil and notepad. And if confronted with an armed threat I am in much greater need of my own firearm and the legal right to use it than I am of a phone conversation with 911. And THAT'S why prosecutors and LEOs should NOT be constantly claiming the everyday citizen should be disarmed or restricted in their legal use of deadly force. Those pleas are nothing but self-serving attempts to establish maximum job security for themselves and maximum "need" for their departments.

Now - please - use the PM feature if you wish to debate this further.

Thanks.
