I've never ever seen someone add a recoil pad to a 30-30 just because.

I'm thinkin this would make it a very enjoyable rifle due to virtually no recoil.
Do people not add them because of looks? The same can be said for a sks or several other calibers. Aside from being macho, is there something wrong with trying to bring recoil to nearly nill? I'm thinkin of limbsaver pads or something similar. 30 bux tops.

I had a decelorater on my 30-30 break action because the stock was about an inch too short. I dont think there is any reason NOT to put a pad on anything if it makes it more fun for you.

If the LOP is too short or if you're sensitive to recoil it might be a good idea.

I don't have one on mine because I personally think it ruins the lines of the rifle and I don't mind the recoil at all. Then again, I started off with a 7.62x54R as my first rifle so I might be a bit biased.

I believe most shooters don't bother because of the modest recoil and that the majority of folks just don't practice much with the rifle. That doesn't mean that the shooters aren't proficient. Most probably shoot a couple of rounds every season to verify the zero and from then on one round per deer.

As for looks, I have one on my Marlin 1895g 45-70 and it looks just fine. ..a line from my favorite tv personality.....if it looks good- eat it!

I would add one of those nice "grind to fit" recoil pads to one of my 30-30's. Limbsaver makes one I think. The grind to fit kind gives it a perfect fit. But, I would also need to have the buttstock cut. I would need to remove enough so that the length of pull would remain the same after the recoil pad is fitted. That aint no $30 job, unless you can do it yourself. I think more of my leveractions than to just put some junk recoil pad on.

I put a Pachmayr on mine - I wanted a little more length and a little less recoil.

It was a grind-to-fit pad and it was easy to do - bench grinder, belt sander and some protective mylar tape.

If you are interested in doing it yourself I will be happy to supply details.

My shoulder was wrecked in 03 when a spinning SUV separated me from my shovelhead. A few quick rounds from my 870 will bring watery eyes. I don't pad my .357 carbine but I do have one on my 30-30.
